Blade magazine... disappointing!

Why bother with a subscription when you can get everything you want without the ads for free here? Way better than a magazine. Or better yet, support the forum with a membership. Costs about the same as a magazine subscription, you get answers to your questions, and none of those f#$%&ing cards falling out on you.

I get both because I like something to read in bed. Wife used to get pissed when I put the laptop on her stomach while she was sleeping! :D

While I do agree that ALL of the knife related mags have slipped, almost to the point of worthlessness, I still like all of them because they're KNIFE magazines. Knife magazines, no matter how lame, are better than just about any other kind of magazines, when you're a true knife nut. ;) :)

Just kinda sucks to pay for being advertised to :(

Just like cable TV..

Kinda like paying for popups or spam..

True, true. Kinda like paying much more than an item's worth just to be an advertisement for the company you bought the item from. All things Nike come to mind.

A subscription will run you $2 a month. Pretty affordable information and entertainment.

Good point about the forum membership.. that too is very affordable recreation.

I prefer Knives Illustrated to Blade. Although Blade has prettier pictures, KI tends to focus on more interesting blades. The articles and 'reviews' are obviously crap most of the time, but what do you expect?

I also prefer Knives Illustrated to Blade. They both could use some improvement. The last issue of Blade was a complete waste of about ten minutes of my time.

I like Knife World.

My preference regarding knife magazines:

1. KNIFE (Japanese magazine) Can´t read but the pictures says it all...

2. Messermagazin (German) Excellent reviews of different knives.

3. Blade (USA) Occasional read when there is an issue with an article that peaks my interest.

The other knife magazines have lousy paper and fuzzy pictures so why bother? I´d rather spend another hour or two on the internet instead.

It's hit or miss with both BLADE and TK. Some months either one with be really cool and chock full of good reading, or so-so, or just plain sucky. Lately I've been picking up "The Backwoodsman", great reaing and usually some knife content. And just like the man said, a knife magazine is better than other mags. I used to buy Backpacker magazine but I recently looked at one at the B & N, all ads

If you want real world knife info, stick with the various internet forums. You get a wide and varied pool of opinions and experiences compared one sided crap aimed at sucking up to advertisers.

Magazines in general have lost the plot haven't they?

I can remember Tracks - the iconic Aussie surf mag being an inspiring mix of counter culture, wit, literature, amazing stories and photographs. Now it's just rubbish. I also remember early editions of Runners World and Triathlete being good sources of motivation, inspiration and information - now they are as superficial as they come. I suppose a similiar trend in knife mags is to be expected.
