Blade noob here with EDC knife questions.

Jump all over that Buck Vantage Force Pro for $35! It's highly unlikely that you will find one cheaper anywhere else, not even online.. ;)

Yeah I'm going to get it for sure. I have to wait till Tuesday when he gets back from Blade.

Hopefully my wife has been picking up the hints I've been dropping for Father's day and I'll be getting the ZT0350 next weekend.

Can anybody point in the direction of some good resources on blade steel. I'd like to know the main differences in ZDP and S30V. I had my mind made up on the regular ZT0350 until I checked on Kershawguys website and found the 350ZDP. Remember that I can get the regular ZT350 for $100. Is the ZDP worth double that?

Wow, just looked up Kershawguy and you're right, he has some awesome stuff at great prices. I really liked his ZT0350 in ZDP189. I haven't seen this model anywhere else, is it exclusive to his store? Is the ZDP worth the extra $100 over what I can get locally? What are the main differences between the S30V and ZDP?

I have the zt0350 ZDP189. First off it is a composite blade, meaning that most of the blade is made out of one steel and the cutting edge is coated with the premium steel in this case the ZDP. Yes there were only a limited of these blades made, so if you can pick one up and you can swing ghe extra cash i would go for it.

I own one which i de-assisted bc its more attractive to me but I love the knife and the ergo are outstanding. Its a little heavy and wide for EDC for some but if you get the itch it wont be your last knife. As far as the steel it is a great steal. Hc is high so it is a little hard to sharpen but it will keep an edge far longer than s30v which is no slouch. Its tough and i have never had a problem with chips which may be a concern at that hardness. The shape of blade is awesome, nice belly with a little re-curve, and it has a huge cutting edge for the total length of the Blade. This packs more blade in a small size which is nice for an EDC. Actually if u laid a string along the cutting edge it is as almost the same length as a spyderco military which has a much larger overall blade length. The shape is functionally great but is a little hard to sharpen if you are new to the game. Great knife and you wont be sorry if you can swing it! Let meknow if you have more questions.

Thanks for all the info. I've really fallen in love with 0350 after handling it at my local store. It just felt extremely solid and well built. I know alot of people consider it a little heavy and large for EDC but I think I could get used to it. My main EDC for over five years was a BM 3550 which is about the same weight, just a smaller overall package. If my wife and kids get me the ZT for Father's Day I may just have to get the ZDP myself at a later time.

You mentioned it being a composite blade, according to Kershawguy's website he has one with a full ZDP blade and a composite.

I can see this whole "knife thing" becoming an issue very quickly. I already have an urge to start picking up various Kershaw's and ZT's just because they are cool or might have a few different steel offerings. I'm a sucker for collecting all the various items in a series. For instance all the different 0350's. This could get expensive very quickly.

Well if he has a full, hell go for it for sure!!! Yea Its a great little knife for sure! Yes, it is additive and it sounds like you may be getting the itch, and just wait till you get into CRKs, striders, or hinderers and beyond! Then the lies, trades, and moonlighting starts just for your latest itch! Haha i love it wont trade anything for it..unless of course it was my grail Knife!

I need to stay away from all that higher priced stuff. I think I'm being drawn to the Kershaw/ZT knives because of the fact that they aren't so crazy expensive. That way I'll actually use my knives and wont get upset if they get messed up or lost.

My local dealer called me today and said he has a Buck Vantage Force Pro with black G-10 handles, black S30V blade, and the best part is he only wants $35.00 for it. Based on what I've seen online that's a pretty good deal. It seems to get good reviews, what do you guys think, anyone here EDC one?

That is a steal. Would love a message with yours guys shop number. Best price I have seen.

Take the $100, get the Buck and a Spyderco Sharpmaker. Watch the dvd with the Sharpmaker. You'll be amazed just how sharp you'll keep that Buck.

Best advice yet. Of course you'll want to pick up that zt sooner or later, but the sharpmaker (with diamond and ultrafine rods if you can swing it) is an absolute must.

Just and update to my thread guys. I ended up getting the Buck simply because of the price. It is a very sweet knife and I've been carrying it for about a week now. It came out of the box razor sharp and the action is silky smooth.

It has been trumped by my Father's Day gift. My wife and kids went all out and surprised the hell outta me! New thread incoming!

Congrates, it's a nice blade...Nice tease haha...Looking forward to it! Enjoy!

-Oops, I guess I was late for this...but if you need another...

Here's another vote for the kershaw blur. Thin form-factor and so should fit in your back pocket with plenty of room to spare. Although as noted in another post, it isn't a flipper- being assisted opening, it flies out with a good thwack when it locks in. I've got the DLC version so it's all black and it's in my edc rotation, cutting up boxes and what not. That is, when it gets a chance to knock out my CRK Umnumzaan.

One thing to note, it is a recurve blade. So you might have to look into some videos on best way to sharpen it unless you already know.

Good luck with your choice- the hunt is a big part of the fun.
