Blade orientation in heat treat oven

I've been reading up trying to educate myself prior to putting together a small heat treatment oven. Having never heat treated anything myself before, one detail has me confused...

What is the proper orientation for a blade in a heat treat oven? While orientation may not matter (i.e. held vertical vs laying flat), I assume it isn't just plopped on the floor of the oven. Do most folks use a rack to hold their blades off of the floor? Or a stand to hold them edge-up (or spine-up)?

I haven't noticed any of these details in photographs

Thanks for any clarity

I suspect laying them flat would almost guarantee warpage. Almost everyone I know of uses a rack. Pros with big enough ovens hang them vertically. The idea is to allow them to heat up evenly.

Thanks for the quick replies... thats what I figured. Makes sense..... edge up keeps the edge at the (theoretically) hotter location in the oven. Understandably, vertical only works for large ovens, which won't be the case here.

Mine are edge up mounted in slots cut into fire bricks. They sit about 1 1/2" under the thermal sensor. I like the bricks better than racks, but to each his own.
