Hi guys I cant use search so sorry if this has already been done but I am quite concerned since the Endura 4 I just got in the mail today has a little horizontal and vertical blade play. I'll probably fix this with a torx driver and I love the overall design of the knife and it was really sharp out of the box. My Delica and Tenacious did not have the problem upon arrival. Is this common, or a design flaw? I just want to say Spyderco is my favorite company for EDC knives. Thanks in advance.

I have a couple. No blade play. Vertical blade play can develop after a hard use.

Did you buy it new? I have Enduras I have had for years in daily use that have no play at all. It's no design flaw or it would be something I'd have encountered in mine. Do you mean a defect?

It's either a defect or a very, very hard used or abused knife. Has it been spine whacked to death in some kind of test? Joe

I had no play with any of my spydies...contact them if the torx does not do the trick. BTW you are right about Spyderco! GREAT KNIVES!

A minimal amount of vertical blade play is normal and does not affect the function of the knife. Additionally, well-used lockbacks that formerly had no blade play may develop some. A torx driver should fix horizontal play.

I just got it, its brand new. Its got that "new shine" and extra extra sharp factory edge on it.

Its fixed and I'm so far very pleased with the knife's performance. I was just a little shocked to see blade play from my favorite knife company. I guess the torx were a bit lose no biggy...its an awesome knife and my new EDC.

Thanks for the responses guys.

So did mine.

Well scratch that. I had absolutely no horizontal play, but vertical play, I'm not 100% sure. I have a little bit now (unnoticeable to the eye), but I can only feel it if I hold the knife in my hand as if I were going to use it and then pull back with my other hand's pinky through the hole. Then under my thumb I can feel slight movement.

Really? I long have you had it, i've EDC'd my Delica 4 for maybe 2 months now, and its got SOLID lock up.

I've had it for 2 days short of 2 months now. I've taken it apart several times, though.

I can see that the probelm is that the lock bar doesn't sit flush with the scales (and therefore the blade tang). It isn't making 100% contact with the tang, so it's allowing that bit of room for movement.

There hasn't been anything I can do about it, either. Every time I put it back together and make sure the lock is exactly fitted to the tang, it just reverts back to the same state next time I close/open it.

So if you grab your knife, put your thumb on the lock bar, put your pinky through the hole and pull, you don't feel any movement of the lock bar on your thumb?

Nope...

Weird, I' ve NEVER had any blade play with my Endura 4. I guess a Torx driver should solve the horizontal play on yours..otherwise you should contact Spyderco about it.

I did, and it did work. I could not be happier with the knife now, perfect EDC/Tactical blade IMO.

The only blade play I've encountered in ANY of my Spydercos is vertical play in my Native. And even this its barely noticeable. I can just barely feel it move, but cant see how far.

My E4 clicks loudly up and down if i put it on my computer table and press down?
I haven't cut anything but some paper with it since i got it some month ago.
Can't tighten the main screw since i don't have that sort of screwdriver.
