Blade profile of the Spyderco Stretch

I resisted the Stretch for many years due to what I considered to be an awkward appearance, but the consistent and glowing reviews gradually wore down my resistance. Now the Stretch is among my favorite Spydies. Stretch resistance is futile! Here are my ZDP users.

i love my stretch. the hole opener size is just right, the stabbing is good (have to put holes in rainwater filled bottlesr or bags sometimes, its more fun that way) the slicing ability it has is my number one slicer, resists corrosion good, carries in the pocket good, its comfortable, oh i love the ergos, the multi directional frn traction, good price... only the benchmade axis lock is superior for one handed use and strength. i have the full sized griptillian and never noticed that they were the same shape...

Please slap some sense into me. Stretch owners are especially welcome.

There is nothing wrong at all with owning both knives. It is highly encouraged, in fact.

You do need a Stretch, though.

After all these posts, I too think I need a Stretch--or at least to try one. I should also add that I am very satisfied with this Mini-grip (though this hole is clearly not a Spydie hole).

The only thing wrong with owning both knives is that I spent resources on two knives instead of one. :p
I wish the easiest answer to "Which knife should I get?" always is "All of them."

For quite a while I had an ffg Endura in my edc rotation and really liked it. I thought the Stretch was overpriced for what i thought was a small Endura. About 6 months ago I got a Stretch and it now has replaced the Endura in my carry rotation. Very nice size and shape. It seems more manageable than the Endura. Slightly better ergonomics. I had to carry the Stretch a few times to appreciate this.

The overall thinness of the CF ZDP 189 version makes it a favorite for those in the know.
The early ones with the dinosaur jimping are top of the heap.

I've been asking Sal for that, but it seems it isn't going to happen.

Apart from the lock the only thing I'd like to change on it is nesting the liners and making it in Golden.

PS! I like my first run ZDP-189 very much

To OP, that BM is uglier than the Stretch IMO :p

I never like the spine shape of the Stretch, so I'm wondering what's the purpose of the hump near the tip?

I remember reading that the Stretch started out as a hunter model. I think the hump near the tip is intended for opening cavities with less risk of puncturing organs. I'm no hunter though, so I can't speak much as to that.

I don't like the blade shape of the Stretch. If you like everything else about it and are inclined to tinker, you can grind/sand down the hump to a more pleasing shape. If you use a power tool, make sure the blade doesn't get hot.

I love the stretch especially in peel ply CF (with big jimping). Easily top 5 knives period. The blade hump is attractive to me and it makes the tip a little stronger. That's a nice thing if you have a super thin regrind.
