I would like to know about your expirience with blade protection.

Because our Beckers are carbon ones, they are pron to rust. So I order from e bay this :

Camellia Seed Oil

Any one have expirience with it,is it ok?
Also, when you cover your blade with oil,do you put the blade back to the sheath or you leave it outside?

I heard also that this oil is food safe,it means that you can use the blade for food preparation ,is that right?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

I use WD-40 on my BK9 and BK4 but for any of my smaller blades (BK 16, 10, 2 etc) I use extra vigin olive oil as it coats well and lasts a long time when the blade sits also you have no concerns regarding contamination when doing food prep. Now to be totally honest I don't find rust to be an issue with my beckers. I have my BK2 stipped and have used it and forgotten to wipe it and oil it as it is my main user around the yard and after several days there were no significant signs of rust. Typically as long as you wipe/dry the blade after use you should be ok. Now a little added protection doesn't hurt.

I also wanted to use Olive Oil,but people mentioned that Olive Oil get rancid whan in contact with air,so not much advisible for food prep.

It might go rancid if you leave it for a long time without using it. If you're going to store it for a long time, I'd recommend grease or beeswax, but for post-cleanup care, olive oil will do the job well. You could also use food grade mineral oil / butcher block oil on the blade.

I use the knives on a regular basis, so the olive oil doesn't get a chance to go rancid.

I'm pretty sure Virtuovice on youtube uses that camellia oil.

I use fluid film on my blades. So far it seems to work well though if I just want to quickly oil one of my blades I'll use WD-40 or 3 in 1 or whatever I have lying around.

I manage a grocery store, so I use what our meat department does.

Tasteless, odorless, and does one heck of a job.

I have used this oil and it is food safe. Food grade mineral oil works just as well and is usually much cheaper in the USA. I put on a light coating and put it back in the sheath.

Natural oil will always become rancid. One-two weeks max I guess in normal conditions and you're ready... Thus its not good for long-term storage.

I'm between Ballistol Universal Oil (http://www.ballistol.de/94-1-BALLISTOL-Universal-Oil.html) and Flitz Rifle, Gun & Knife Wax (http://www.flitz.com/p-28-rifle-gun-knife-wax.aspx). Actually I've got all my knives covered with ballistol for long-term storage. But Flitz Wax seems better.

Guys -- what is your experience with ballistol for long term storage if any?

I use Patchouli oil. People see an old, grey haired guy with a high and tight buzz cut sporting a BK16 in a homemade kydex sheath and they get all nervous, but then they smell the patchouli and start looking around for a hippie. Confuses the hell out of them.

Kidding. Food grade mineral oil.

Ballistol Universal Oil for me. I even use it on leather sheaths, so yeah I leave it on the blade when it is sheathed.

I put a light swipe of olive oil on before storage.
I've never had issues with it.

My BK5 sees kitchen use daily. Sometimes I oil it after use but most times not.
