Okay... I'm a huge fan of viking history, I would LOVE to see Jerry and the gang's take on a classic Norse blade, the seax.

INFI or SR-101, either steel would be perfect. I would like to see two different sizes available. Maybe a 6" option and a 11" option?

Just a wish...

I'm with you! I was thinking the same thing, either steel, 8-10" blade. Not too much belly, long tapered point. yeah!

Nobody will believe this but my boy and I were doodling a seax tonight. About the length that was mentioned with the long tip. But mine had natural amber insets and the blade construction was traditional with only sell on the edge.

Odd coincidence, great idea.

Turns out that our ancestors were Vikings.

The "BUSSE" name is from the largest warship ever made by the Vikings, called the Busse

I have drawn several Seax and I definitely foresee one in the future...... Might be 20 years from now, but it's coming.

I've always loved the seax and would love to see Jerry's version, he could do three different lengths a 4-5" EDC, a 8-9" mid size, and a long seax with a 13-14" blade.

I'd better get on it!!!

VERY interesting !!! I've seen this type of knife in historical movies. I know that they were widely used in Europe. I'm just wondering, are there any advantages to this blade geometry? Must have been a reason for its shape.

I just Googled Busse and Viking and came out with really cool results speaking to the Busse conquest ships that the Vikings used.

VERY COOL!

Busse – The Viking warship

The Busse class longship was the most prestigious Viking warship, and likely most Drakkar ships were Busse ships. The Busse was big with sizes up to 50 metres, around 160 feet in length. Fitted with both sails and oars, a Busse could have up to 35 pairs of oars, allowing it to travel with speed utilising any propulsion method.

The Busse was capable of carrying a large cargo, which was beneficial on large scale raids, where the Vikings would look to take as much treasure home as possible. The Busse was thought to have carried a crew of around 80 Vikings. The scale and size of the Busse also allowed the Viking raids to travel further afield. The larger cargo holds meant the journeys across the oceans would be feasible compared to the smaller ship classes.

The MOASS is kind of close to a seax which btw was quite widespread in central, west and northern Europe. Maybe because of the Vikings but probably before that. I don't know any Germanic tribe who didn't use seaxes. Does it's name suggests Saxon origin?

To make a Seax the MOASS just needs more belly. Seax aren't Wharncliffe. To get a "broken back" seax the tip should be clipped more and this kind of Seax got an unusual feature where the spine slopes up from the handle to the clip, until it's, well, ... clipped. :-)
