Blade Show 2010 -- very photo intensive

another favorite maker of ours is Ron Best. Since begining his venture into the realm of folders, he has little time to do any Fixed Blades although he says he will return to them

orig.jpg

some of his early folders on consignment at the show

orig.jpg

and now on to the serious stuff

orig.jpg

orig.jpg

like me, Ron was never a fan of this style of blade but since doing one, he has found it to be a knife he has as an EDC

orig.jpg

he must have swung a deal as he is almost smiling now

The grand prize winner for the 2010 Blade show for both Best Art Knife and Best of Show belongs to the Hansons

orig.jpg

and there were lots of admirers

lighting in the room is not kind to knives or photographers but this gives an idea of the knife

orig.jpg

both knives are one but the angles required to do the photograph due to lighting conditions has created distortion

Long time Knifemakers Guild member is a fixture a Blade and the Guild show

orig.jpg

his daggers are always magnificent

orig.jpg

what a thought -- Canes, Scrim and Ivory

orig.jpg

too many favorite makers -- David Broadwell discusses things with an interested

orig.jpg

and some of his typical Fighters

orig.jpg

subhilts anyone??

Dennis Friedly has been creating wonderful knives for years and it was great to chat with him again

orig.jpg

Dennis is well know for his Elmer Keith and also for fine Bowies

orig.jpg

and maybe a fighter or two nicely engraved?

orig.jpg

I really liked this presentation but totally have forgotten who created it

orig.jpg

anyone with a name for this maker?

orig.jpg

pretty kewl gaucho knives but it begs the question like if a tree falls in the forest does it make any noise if no one is around? well, if a mirror is in a black room what does it see? Now you know!

orig.jpg

here is the case of the disappearing file and I can't remember who this maker is but I found it - Jim Ragsdale

orig.jpg

like this lady, Phyllis loves to check out the jewellry from Jot Singh Khalsa..

orig.jpg

I like the knives

Kevin Hoffman a board member of the Knifemakers Guild

another long time knifemaker and former Guild executive, D'Holder

continues expressing his craft with tried and true favorites

orig.jpg

adding a little scrim for that artistic bent

orig.jpg

a nice folder by Murray Sterling
orig.jpg

Just in case anyone missed it, Kyle Royer won an award

orig.jpg

Linda Karst Stone is still creating terrific scrimshaw work for clients

orig.jpg

as seen in this handle
orig.jpg

As usual, Thad Buchanan had a successful show

orig.jpg

very nice Chute knife here

orig.jpg

John Young, Takahashi, Charles Vestal, Dennis Friedly, Steve Johnson as well as Thad had very nice Chutes available

Tim Herman was having a great time visiting with old friends after having been quite ill over the past year. Help a fella out with the name of the maker holding Tim up ok folks

orig.jpg

he does nice knives

orig.jpg

my friends, the Western Wonders, Jon Christenson, David Lisch, Tom Ferry and Mike Vagnino have created a small group whose name is self evident which is bordering on major success and I'm sure all collectors will be enthused to see their creation such as a couple shown here

orig.jpg

To conclude this 23 part Saga, I will leave you with a couple of fine makers whose artistic skills are at the highest level. First with only one knife available is Donald Vogt.

orig.jpg

with this outstanding auto -- not for me to buy though

orig.jpg

lastly is the work of another fine make with a background in the jewellry field -- Kenneth King

orig.jpg

Kenneth is at home with folders

orig.jpg

orig.jpg

as well as fixed blades

orig.jpg

and this one to conclude the presentation unless I decide to include the few image of knifethrowing and swords play I took.

orig.jpg

Blade 2010 was very intensive to see and photograph and then prepare images and post them which took an additional almost 24 hours (would have been a bit less if the computer had not crapped out on me at one point.) Hope everyone viewing got a sense of the show and hopefully I did not miss something too important.

Murray,

Gosh! What a lot of work! Thanks for doing it and sharing with us.

Bill

one of the most interesting displays was this one and I did not get the lady's name

orig.jpg

Murray, I do believe that is Grace Horne from the UK. She, like a number of knifemakers we know is a bit of a ringer in that she has extensive experience in other related artistic fields that translated very well into the realm of as I am sure you noticed. IIRC, prior to her setting up her knifemaking shop a couple of years ago she had only made a couple of knives over the preceding decade or so, but I saw the second one that she did for some type of graduation requirement and it was very impressive.

Outstanding thread Murray! Thanks so much for putting it all together.. I noticed right towards the end some engraving by "Jason Fava".. I had some work done by him years ago when he used his entire last name, Marchafava. I have been wondering what became of him. Someone told me he moved to Italy to study with a well known engraver there. I'm wondering if anyone has any current contact info? Once again, fantastic job giving us guys who couldn't attend a flavor of the show.. Well Done!! Best Regards, Rich

Thanks so much for this wonderful thread! I really have to get to this show one day soon.

Murray,
Wonderful pics of the show. Thank you very much. I believe that the Scagel style maker you have pictured is Doug Noren M.S. from Michigan.

Best,

Jerry

Thank you Murray.
I know how much work that was and it is greatly appreciated.
:D
