I ran down to the Blade show yesterday for a while, thought I would show my loot.
I had a great time and got to talk to lots of really cool knife folks, including Evan (Esnyx), John Lloyd, Dr. T and his son Jason, Lyle, Bobby Toole, Christine Tucker from G.E.C. and another super nice lady from G.E.C. (I'm embarrassed to not remember her name) but she told me she does all of the honing on the blades, among many other fine people.
These shows are a must do thing for you knife nuts, so many nice people to talk to and SO many knives to handle. The custom makers seem to love it when you appreciate their work and they're more than happy to let you "coon finger and chicken eye" them.

Anyone else have loot to show? Let's see it!

Lyle was kind enough to let me grab one of his Lick Creek 38's, and I've been jonesin' for a 73. And I just had to stop at the "worlds largest" fireworks supermarket on the way home. How do you resist a redneck T-shirt!

How about these cool printing blocks from Case!

Bobby Toole, I couldn't resist!

I couldn't buy one of these, Case was just teasing!

Mark, sounds like you had a blast & nice haul, too

Great blades, really liking the stamps from Case. Love the shadow pattern on that Toole~

Looks like you had a great time.
That Shadow from Bobby Toole is great. Bobby makes a great knife at a great value, and he is a fine gent to visit with. Thanks for sharing with us Mark.

True, Bobby is a great guy and a real gentleman.
It sure was good to meet Evan and get to see his work in person. It's hard to believe he's been at it for such a short time, such fine work!

Mark,

Thanks for sharing your day with us. :)

...Christine Tucker from G.E.C. and another super nice lady from G.E.C. (I'm embarrassed to not remember her name)....

Dollars to donuts you met Patti Proper (rhymes with "Roper," heh).

Was there Saturday even though I was under strict orders not to spend a lot of money.

Had a good time visiting the GEC booth chatting with the ladies. Handled the #38 Whittler and really liked the way it felt in-hand. I don't need one, but I want one.

Spent a good bit at the Canal Street Cutlery booth. Always get a good history lesson on knives when I visit them. Need to find me a Swell Center Jack once funds allow.

Funny you mention Bobby Toole, I stopped by his table too. Really liked a beautiful single blade he had in Ivory.

Also torn between the Helle Harding & the Sigmund.

All in all had a good time even though I didn't get anything. Last couple years BLADE has become more about hanging out with friends and talking about knives than the knives themselves.

Thanks for the check-in with the blade show, Mark!
I hope we get some more pics, people and knives!
Anyone??

Sadly, I didn't take any pictures.

For me, the coolest traditional knife I saw at the show was a Southington Pearl Handled Palette Knife in a slip joint frame. For those who don't know a palette knife is used for mixing paints and pigments on artists palettes, hence the name. I should've tried to trade something for it, would make me take up painting again!

Also first thing in the door I walked by the Bose table and got to handle various Bose knives and talk to the man himself. Got to handle a stag single blade trapper by Reese (dream knife) and that rag micarta - awesome.

Clutch Good pickup on that Bobby Toole knife - real high quality work.

Still riding back home from the show, couple more hours to go. I had a blast this weekend and it was great meeting everyone! Lots of traditional forum folks were there and I had a great time talking slipjoints with everyone!

Hey Y'all...
I went to the Bladeshow on Sunday, great time, lots of great stuff to see.
I purchased a Canal Street Cutlery Half Moon Trapper (single blade) in sunset bone.
Beautiful knife, I'm so happy with it.
I've read lots of criticisms regarding their knives, yet on mine the finishing is smooth, tight, no gaps.
Mine has an easy open backspring, but not weak as I've read. I'm one who mostly prefers the nail-rippers, yet
I'm totally fine with how easy this knife opens and closes.
Next purchase was a case Rough Black Slimline Trapper (Gum Fuddy). I was happy to get this too.
I don't mind the synthetic scales on this (I usually prefer horn or bone) clean, tight, nice snaps, centered blade.
This model apparently goes back to WW2, rations on raw materials made Case try this synthetic for scales.
My third year at Bladeshow, I've enjoyed myself each time.

What a show!! Thousands of people there, and so much variety that it could blow your mind!!

To say the least, to me, it felt like drinking from a fire hose. That was my first knife show, let alone my first time exhibiting my knives!

It was great to see you there, Mark, along with Jordan an a few other forumites. Gotta say thanks to Phil for coming up with me to give me a break from sitting behind the table! Without him, I wouldn't have been able to meander around the show, nor meet half the people I had the pleasure of meeting

Met some great makers, saw some amazing work, and I managed to snag some materials for my future builds!

Overall a great show! I definitely plan on being there next year!

Glad it went so well for all who attended! Wish I could've made it to meet Phil and you Evan. Oh well maybe next year.

Here's a shot of Evan at his table, one of the only pics we took this weekend unfortunately. The show was really a sensory overload!
