BLADE SHOW 2016 - Tips and Tricks?

All great info, thanks guys.
Just out of curiosity,, why bring cash? I would assume most makers take cards.. but could be wrong.

Most do take cards now. But there are some that don't. You just need to be prepared. There are also ATMs at the exhibit hall where you can get cash from a credit card or debit.

WOW! Tons of great info. I wasn't planning much on seeing the city should have emphasized the might. Now its a deffinite no.
I already have a highlighted map and my cash/barter pieces are ready. I'm not particularly interested in any customs this year (on second thought maybe Fodale or Fiddle Back), but maybe in the future. Thank you all for the advice. I'm really looking forward to the show.

I haven't looked, but there has always been a sketch of the exhibit hall layout with tables and booths numbered. Then there is a long list you can print out with the exhibitors names.

The one good thing unless you are flying is that the Blade Show is not downtown and easier to get to (for me). I HATE Atanta traffic during rush hour. Always an accident and always hold ups.

But, if you fly the airport is south of the city and the show is north. Use the ring road to the west of town.

What time do people with early bird passes usually line up outside. I have a particular knife I'm gunning for but I'm not for getting to the center and waiting in line at 6am.

Get a Blade magazine, they have LOTS of information on the show.

I would NOT suggest bringing knives to trade/sell, it is considered bad form.

Last year I got there about 8:00am I believe for one of the BladeU classes that was starting at 8:30am and there was probably already about 20 people in the line to get in the hall. By the time they started letting people in to the main convention hall at 12pm for the early bird there were probably 500 people (don't know exactly but it was a lot) in a line that looped all the way around the outside edge of the very large foyer area and was almost to the point it was going back down the stairs/escalators going down to the entrance. In other words if you think others are going to be gunning for the same knife you want the answer is EARLY. It was my first blade and I was in awe

I am going to the blade show. It might be a good thing that most custom knives are sold. It will save me bunches of money.

Not true, my dear!

It is BAD form to do sell or trade with NON table holders ON the floor(brown bagging).....other than that, it's all good.

Where do you suggest trading? (if at all?)

Where do you suggest trading? (if at all?)

The pit, hotel rooms, restaurants.....

On the floor, with table holders like Les Robertson or Blue Ridge Knives.

Just NOT on the show floor with fellow collectors....it's NO BUENO!!!

Some great suggestions in this thread. I just have two other comments.

Blade Show is a good place for certain non-knife items, also. I have bought Wilson Combat 1911 magazines at their booth for less than the prices on their website. You can examine everything Maxpedition offers. some good sheathmakers, cabinets and display boxes, etc. Several big-name flashlight makers will be there.

After years of attending, I have decided that standing in the early bird line all morning just isn't worth it. (Of course, being 70 years old may have something to do with it.) The only reason I can think of to do it is to get first shot at some specific maker's inventory. If you have no specific target in mind, just relax and don't sweat the line.

Do the custom knife makers take credit card or do I have to bring cash. This will be my first show in Atlanta.

Cash is king.....SOME take credit cards, you can generally Paypal to them from your phone.
