Blade Show in Atlanta...who's going?

This may be a dumb question, seeing how anyone who's anyone, I'm sure, will try to make it! I plan on attending and had one question. Will this be a good opportunity to get good deals on our favorite hobby or will it be the exact opposite...all dealers and makers offering great knives at inflated prices to set the pace for their future endeavors. No offense intended...just want to know if I'm going to find some good deals at the show. I know how defensive dealers can get when haggeling is a factor...again no offense. I'll spend some major $$ either way. Thanks for any opinions.

All of God's Critters may have knives, but most of them are stamped with the name BENCHMADE

Well one thing for sure you can meet many friends at booth #85, our booth.

I will also have KILLER deals on hand so check us out.

Here are some tips on what to look for at Blade Shows in general.

1) Manufacturers will have prototypes of knives which will be out soon after the blade show. Benchamde is really famous for having these. However you will pay FULL retail for them but you are getting a prototype.

2) Some comapnies will offer there products at a discount (Show discount if you will). So look for these and don't forget to get your Hershey's Kisses at the CRKT booth.

3) Custom makers will be in the center tables. Pick your favorite maker and BYPASS everything else (us encluded) and get to their table as their knives go fast. Emerson is a prime example of this.

4) Look for closeouts! Distributors (Myself included) and others will have them so snap up the deals when you can.

5) Don't be afraid to talk to anyone you wish. I still find people who a scared to meet a famous maker. Please don't be. Just go up and say hi and tell them you like their work. Even if you can't afford the pieces they make you will feel good that you met the man you may have admired for years.

6) Make the BFC booth your home base. We will have giveaways and many makers will frequent our booth so it will be a great spot to "Hang Out". Also if we get the phone line up you will be able to post live from the show and get your picture taken for the BFC members wall of fame!

Most of all enjoy your stay. You are among friends.

If all goes well I will be sharing a little space with REKAT. Hope to have a few knives to show and some Talonite barstock to sell. I went to the Blade Show back in the late 80's and had a great time. It is a huge show! I hope to meet many forumites there.

I'll be there! Can't wait to see everything. I've got a list a mile long of things I want to see (and a "buy" list only slightly shorter

)

I've met many of my fellow NC forumites, and can't wait to meet the rest of you.

I just decided this week to skip my annual May camping/fishing vacation to make this show. I am psyched!

Definitely want to get over to the SpyderCo, REKAT and the Synergy (?) Booths to check out current and "concept" models. Hopefully, this will pretty much be there throughout the show, right?

Absolutely, will drop by BF booth to say Hi to fellow BF forumites.

Definitely want to go by Pat Crawford to meet the man in person. Looking forward to just seeing custommakers and their wares. Sounds like I have to do this on the first day, or miss seeing their products.

Like to see any bladesmithing/knifemaking demonstrations that may take place.

Looking forward to two workouts with KF forumites after Friday and Saturday shows.

I going to try my best to not blow my credit on purchases -- I might allow myself one or two ittty bitty, great deals if I see them -- since I spending way more than my usual for a vacation by flying down and staying in hotel.

Looking forward to learning alot, meeting good folks and having a great time.

I'll be there, table 24-L. Everyone who can, please drop by and say hi. I'll have a few knives there, a mixture of utility pieces and Bowies (maybe that's a big utility piece).

If you check out the Blade Show Preview in the latest Blade, they have a picture of one of my engraved hunters. For that matter, the Handmade Gallery has a picture of one of my Bowies. Any month with two pictures in a magazine is a GOOD month!

This will be my first Blade show and I'm psyched! I even talked the little lady into going. This could be a bad thing, as she'll have my wallet

Please don't have too many deals at the BF booth. Between Dexter and Senator's prodding, I'll probably not have enough gas money to get back home as it is!

Mike, one question. I am planning on getting a plain Sebenza. Should I go straight to his booth or hunt around for a deal?

See you all there!

Chris

I hope to be there on Sunday. If you get a Blade magazine they have the info. I believe its $8.00(?) to get in each day. Hours are something like 10:00 to 5:00(or 6:00). Hope to meet everyone I can.

Sounds like a great show.

Oh geez... I completely forgot! In addition to my own list of things I'd like to get at the show, I've got an even longer list of stuff that CPR will have to get.

Hehehe. I'm here for ya, Chris.

And BTW - Playing with my baby Sebenza at the Raleigh show wouldn't have anything to do with you wanting one, now would it???

Senator,

Yeah, ya got me hooked on the Sebenza, but that is the LAST knife you will get me to buy by flashing one in front of me. I have my own free will.....must have Civilian.....and am determined......must have Wegner Jr......to use it.

Later,
Chris

The blade show is a riot! I went last year and had the time of my life. Answers to some questions posed: Yes there are some really good deals on knives many at wholesale.look at general vendors{peddlers}for best prices on custom and semi custom knives. the makers themselves often only sell at full retail in support of their distributors, but there are exceptions.
hours are 2:00 to 7:00 friday as well as the weekend times listed above.
Parking is ample and lots of small restaraunts are adjacent, all price ranges.
Hint to those looking for collectable pieces, stay late on the last day. Many vendors do not want to haul back a lot of stuff, and it can be a chance to pick up prototypes and display pieces.
Look for me there, I`ll be the one wearing the knife!

The N.C. Gang will ride again.

I will be there Thursday night and be there till Sunday afternoon! I hope to meet some of you there! Maybe we need to set a time and place or get Bladeforums name tags or something so we can Identify each other. Just a thought!

We'll be peddling BladeForums.com Tshirts and hopefully the Blue Native will have arrived by then, so you've got your two forms of ID right there.

Failing that, we've talked about getting BladeForums.com stickers printed up....
