Blade Show Question

I have a question to anyone who is going to attend any upcoming blade shows, especially the one in Garden Grove, California. Would you ever buy a knife for someone who cannot attend and sell it to them? (For a higher price) as a favor.

I might if I knew for sure they would buy it. The price increase would only be slight however-enough to cover show admission, parking, and gas. Or they can just give you some money assuming you would attend anyway.... That is more like what I would actually do.

I'll echo what others have said that I wouldn't charge anything over the price of the knife and maybe call a 6pk when he picks said knife up even for my entry fee. As far as shipping, I can't imagine a situation where I'd be buying any product for any of my few out of state friends or family.

Sure. Pay up front, refund the money if I am unable to obtain the requested blade (i.e. sold out or lottery was won by another party). CCKS has lost some of its luster these days as the more reknowned makers are bypassing it in lieu of The Gathering. I may or may not attend CCKS this year and opt for The Gathering instead. Not sure yet...

Buying a knife for a friend can be a tough thing especially if they are wishy-washy about what they want. It's a receipe for getting stuck with a knife you neither want nor need. For a friend (as opposed to someone I just work with), I might even give the knife as a gift. Depends on the cost and so forth.

I do it every year at Bladeshow in ATL. I'll usually proxy for members here and other forums. They are my friends, so I just give it to them for what I paid, plus shipping and insurance. It's funny, I'll walk out of Bladeshow with about 5 or 6 knives and only one of them will be mine! lol

What if you don't know the person? Because i was hoping I could buy from someone here since most people share a common interest, there's a small knife that might be at the California show, it's by a maker I've been watching for a long time but they're hard to buy from so someone recommened to me on a forum I've made to go to a blade show but I can't afford it cash/time wise, ide love to some day but I just can't go so that was my proposal to anyone that will be attending but only if you're attending and you want to visit the maker... l also the reason I know they'll be there is they wrote it on their site. One bad thing is there is no guarantee they would have the knife but since any of you might be there I figured ide ask because there is a good possibility.

What you are asking for is called a "proxy", furthermore some will do it just to help out a fellow knife enthusiast and not ask for payment. While some others will want to be compensated for their time.

That being said, outright asking about this and including the caveat of payment treads awfully close to a WTB ad or a "Services wanted" ad.
That being the case, I would edit that out.

Sorry I forgot about that I didn't even know there was a name for it , should I completely remove my previous post? Or which part should I remove because I'm not doing much of a wtb I think you're right about the services wanted part however i can't seem to find it and I really don't want a mod to remove this forum... wait a sec why does it say this is listed under the good the bad the ugly? I didn't post on this forum

Post was moved by a mod.
I would just erase the parts about laying for anyone's service and dollars offered.

That being said, if they moved it without editing your post, or telling you to do so, you might be fine.

If it's a major show, see if there are dealers going to be there. They may be willing to act as a proxy and you could pre-authorize an amount on your card.

Do you know of any dealers? I'm not experienced at all with this... it's the California garden grove show in October I don't think it's that popular
