Blade Show Questionaire

OK 2Knife

Trans $650 from Oregon
Accommodations $300 my cost (shared a room with 2 others)
Table fees $450
Food $200

I did not follow a budget but did not want to spend too much. I purchased a few supplies to finish orders. When I fill all my orders I will have made enough to make it worth the trip. I also look at going as more advertising and face time than trying to make a lot of $$. I do like to make the $$ and would not be able to justify the trip if I did not. Over all I really had a good time and will try to make it back next year (hopefully for MS).

1100 miles, round trip.
Less than $100 in gas.
Hotel, $220, shared a room across the street.
Table, $450
Food, $200+/-
Entertainment, the knives and people at the show....Priceless

Fossil Ivory, $3000 + :D

"Entertainment, the knives and people at the show....Priceless"

ABSOLUTELY. The main reason for going.

Ummmmm............Don............when you die, are you going to leave your 14 footlockers full of excess ivory to the Salvation Army or some strange little museum in Alaska?:D

I can safely say ... I spent $1500. Majority .. shipping to blade and shipping back to home ... costed me almost $700.

Okay I play along. I travelled about 4700 miles to get to Atlanta. Airfare was $800. Hotel (Waverly) $1000 (which included about $200 for phonecalls home:grumpy:) Food $200 (I didn't had time to eat much:D). Entertainment for me was what Don said (the show and all the people I met).

I bought a set of mammoth ivory scales (now in the possession of Josh Smith:thumbup::cool:), two knives (photographed by Coop) and I ordered two.:D;)

Round trip flight from Denver, CO - $356
Three nights at the Marriott Courtyard - $339
Cab fare to and from the airport - $120
Parking at Denver International Airport - $74
ABS banquet - $35
Edmund Davidson/David Darom book - $95
Knife purchase - $2600
Incidentals - $50
Meals were provided and I was reimbursed $500 for services provided at the show. Remainder of my expenses (except the knife and book purchase) are tax deductable since I was working in a photojournalist capacity for BLADE, the ABS, assisting Eric Eggly/PointSeven with knife photography and meeting with various consultants regarding my Scagel book project.

Net outlay after reimbursements and tax deductions = approximately $2,911 of which $2,695 represented discretionary purchases. Net outlay minus discretionary purchases = approximately $216

Room fee for photography: $1000
Lodging (Hampton Inn and (2) motels): $470
Fuel (Dodge minivan): $403
Food (for two people): $160
Extra help: $300

Total costs: $2273 (All deductible)
One purchase: Dr. Darom's book with Edmund Davidson: $95 (I have every book in DDD's series.)

Days away: almost six
Time spent distracted from my work meeting and shaking hands with the finest people on the planet: Priceless
Gifts rec'd from Keith Ouye and Jim Small for Trevor: Priceless
5 days my son Trevor spent with grandma: Priceless
Time spent with my wife Susan, at the show as a worker, and with me quiet time on the drives: Priceless

I've spent an additional four full days completing editing/printing and another to finalize mailings. One day prior for preparation and packing.

Blade is a LOT of work, but worth it. Not to be taken lightly.

Coop (Who will post the KNIVES later today.)

I traveled over 2400 miles round trip on my motorcycle over 7 days which included a cruise down part of the Blue Ridge Parkway and a trip to Scott Pilkington's 'engrave-in' in Monteagle Tennessee.

I also bought Edmund's book and had it signed by Edmund and Dr. Darom.

I haven't added up the costs yet, as most are on plastic, but the experience was one of a lifetime.

It was my first time at Blade and meeting the makers and having the opportunity to hold the knives I usually only see in pictures was incredible.

Combine that with meeting many of my favorite engravers and hanging out with them really was PRICELESS.
