Blade Show report

A few pics of mine....These were taken during the VIP time on Friday. That's why there are so few people milling around. The Blade Show is an incredible experience for those that love steel. So many great makers are easily accessible to chat with. If you ever have the chance to go, make it happen.

YEA when I saw that photo I thought, look who got a hair cut and the boy is growing up. Craig's wearing a new cap(past board member)Brian Hugh as well, Bruce, Sherrif Rusty, Joe H. is looking good, John and Larry. With Leroy, Wild Bill, CJ, Chuck, Mrs. Buck and Marlee. All looking chipper! I didn't see David Yellowhorse. Who's our new officers and Board member? Thanks, for the photos gents. DM

My 2 year old somehow escaped that pic. I didn't see David Yellowhorse. Officers remained in their respective positions, there is at least one new board member ( i think I remember who, but don't want to state it wrong). Very little sleep this weekend.

On way home,

Dave has sh0wn most everything but I will do display photos with owners mug shots ASAP. Did not find a single knife, but did buy BCCI mouse pad with date codes on it, pocket note pad with BCCI emblem on front and two new Buck ball caps. Will show note pad, they will make great gifts. BCCI now taking credit card for sale items and membership dues. Several new life and youth members got on board.

i told Dave to pass a stone I thought you were suppose to drink lots of beer.

yes my friend ... i did drink a beer *1
every night and it is helping on that darn kindey stone but not out yet
jest sharp fragments of cristal the size of peper flakes passing..*2

Tony you take much better picts then i do!!!
it was so great to have a hand shake and face to match up to your forum name!!
this has happened that i get to meet F2F some one from the forum every thime i have been there !

300- any picts please post with out worring if it shows some thing that has shown already
as many times a diff time and angle will add information to it for some one!!
that and i know with your excleant memort that you will recall the names of every one!!!

in the last pict Tony posted -
the fine fellow with the rainbow suspenders is none other then ...
ta da.... Richard M. he is THE MAN that donated a hudge chunck of time
docutmenting all the spechal projects from bucks files
i asked him how offten did some thing new poped up
""every week "" and he show me the book with around 40 sticky notes flaging pages
that needed up dateing due to some thing new!!! omg what a book to drooule over !!
and YES he still dont have a digetal camara so if any one has an older one
check with him as he may can use it !!!

some thing new is the club is sending post cards out to life members
asking if they wish to contune to recive the news letter
some have been returned as desesed ( sp) some replyed no
some asked why ?
the club sends news letters to all on the roles and the po does not send back if not deliverable
so why send the news letter to some one that has moved and no fowarding address
or does not follow the club any longer ..
so if you get the post card send it back in as yes you still want to get the news letter!!!

yes as 300 said i also saw very very few used or new buck for sale ( other then at our tables)

and for thoes who know... i gave Leroy a free silver dollor as i had given to Wild Bill last year
so he is now happy that i like them both the same and i am forgiven !!!

*1 (( had to as i gave the last of my shed juce to Leroy and his crew of out laws))
*2 my doc did not want me to go to the show but did not forbade me to

Wow thanks for the updates guys. Good pictures too!
Looks like alot of fun I am missing out on. I'll be at the 25th BCCI though!

for thoes that have never been and wander what you could do there...
arive at cob center and get in line to get your badge
wander at all the folks moveing boxes ect
if have a table then go to rear to unload
if not go on in
go to Buck Collectors Club tables
shake hands and hellos all around
by now over an hr has passed
if set up you then look over the club table for bargans
then check with the other club members to see if they have a treasure you need
during this time the nose level has gone up
you then look around at all the hussel and bussel folks setting up
'those set up looking for bargons all over the place
you notice that you are in a bulding big as 3 foot ball fields full of tables of knives!!
you look up front for the Buck Company booth then head that way
say hello to CJ and Bill Bates as they are there most the time
and look at what is in the display there that is new
then you start clockwise and look at the tables with handle suppleys
then blade supplys and all the steels that are for sale to make knives with
as you pass up and down the rows you see tables with jest a few knives for sale and
the prices shock you ... thousands...
then ya pass by one companys tables and barrles labled any for 10$ any for 20$
and bins labled 3 for 5$ 2 for 15$ ect...you marvel at that a knife can be this inexpensive!

you hear a crowd cheer as one tatical seller tosses shirts to the people around his booth
this happens at several booths through out the day
the din of the noise has been going up all along ..
all the woods and horns laying out to make handles from
blank blades you can finish to a nice knife for reasonable price
displays of non knife things along side displays of
equiptment to make your own blades from or polish the blade you bought
you see booths with names you reconise from the forums here
every one invites you to pick up what ever has cought your eye
as they KNOW that if you really like it you might buy it !!
your feet are tired as you head to the club tables
you catch up on what Joe or Larry O or John has been talking about
your ears catch a wispered word between board members about what
is being discussed for some time in the future meeting
or what knife may be consitered for the next club issue
Leroy or Dave Yellowhorse or Wild Bill passes by and you shake hands
each of you with excitement showing in your eyes adn they show you what they have brought new..

you see several clubmenbers gathered togeather and then you catch the eye of
Chuck Buck the grand old man of Buck nodding as he lissens to an idea some one has
as he walks around he pauses at your display and
may ask a question or two after he says hello and shakes your hand
some one walking by looks at your knives and askes a question and you
are glad to answer with enthusum ...
Gloria comes by and asks if you want to join the club members at dinner at
Oxxx Rxxx diner that evening and she makes sure you know were it is at
they anounce the show is closeing ... some cover their displays
some put the dish of candy out for the judges to come look after all others are gone

you find the dinner and see that some are there already and you relise you are hungry
many chat circles start as every one compairs notes from the day at the show
ideas are discussed and experances ffrom home shaired
before you know it dinner is over and as you pay your check you say good bys for the nite
the next day is much the same but with the club meeting in the after noon
then sunday is long good buys hugs and many
see you here next year's spoken
you pack your displays as the others are doing also
and come back in one last time to check if any one needs a hand ..
and it hits you that jest a few are left ..
and you have to go move your vehical so others can pack
sudenly it is over and you are on your way home...
tired but in a good way and reminding your self to
looking to next year ...

I am in awe. That is the best stream of consciousness narrative I have ever read. Genius. My man on scene, Florida Dave. In a state of grace with aficionados world wide.

Very nice. Thanks for all the photos, looks like there were some fantastic displays.

More Blade Show, still a few more to go after this.......300

A big part of the Blade Show is the social part. If you only come to find new knives you may be disappointed. Talking about knives is the top subject. Lots of time its done as you 'mosey' around the Buck area. One of the ways this is good for eveyone is finding out what knives they want and need. Just about everyone ended up knowing I need 3 odd 309s to totally complete my collection......you never know. As I walked around the knife sales area I bird dogged a couple of models for others to check out. They did the same for me. Let me warn you, you must be ready to tell some of you life's story also.

Thanks for an excellent report along with all the photos everyone. I knew I should have made the two day drive to attend.

Thank you, thank you!!!

R. Methany carried a attache case with him, as seen in the above photo. Did anyone get a peek? Was it full of brass 111s?

I cannot imagine a more robust, insightful or better photographed expose of a show, the show, the enormous show. Outstanding and selfless work has set a new standard in afi reporting. Well done and rare at the same time. :)
