Well, it looks like I am WAY down the waiting list for a table in the ABS sction for '09. As I do not feel that I will be ready for the JS test this year (haven't even done the performance test yet) I had two questions. Is table sharing allowed and if so, does anyone who has a table in the ABS section think they will have some excess space?:D

Table sharing is not allowed at Blade, with one exception. The show offers 1/2 tables (at 1/2 rates) to those who are testing for JS or MS. Sharing a table is looked upon the same as "brown bagging".......if they catch you doing it, they will kick you out.

Bummer. I sent an e-mail to the folks at Blade last week asking where I stood on the waiting list and the reponse i received said "we will check our list for your name and if a table comes up, we will e-mail you." Sounds more like "don't hold your breath, Joe":D

That's an unfortunate response from the "new" show management team. Mary would have filled in the blanks letting you know how many were ahead of you and letting you know assigments are made in January after all last years table holders are accounted for. Just my thoughts on it.

The e-mail for enquiries was stil Mary Lutz's address, but that is not who I heard back from. I wonder what happened to the idea of opening up another room to expand the show for tactical stuff? That wold open up some more room on the main floor, i would think.

The best way to get a table at Blade is to go for your JS and you will get a 1/2 table with no waiting. After that you can have a full table each year.

Ed, I shared a table in 07 where the non ABS makers hang out. I asked in advance if I could do that and was told no problem.

Do your bend test!!! Get the half table. Decide Thursday night to test or not.
Then your in and no one can get mad at you for trying to share a full table.

Mary is no longer in charge of either Blade or Blade West....I learned about it a couple of months ago, and have been asking questions about it every since....with no answers being provided. If you go over the the Blade Magazine forums, I started a thread there, asking who the idiot was that took Mary out of the job.... if it ain't broke....why fix it? Mary was one of the big reasons I went to Blade West, and if she isn't going to be there, I'm considering dropping that show....Lord knows its not a big selling show.

My instincts tell me that someone at Krause had some sort of an agenda that Mary didn't fit into....so she is now working the advertising for the magazine. What I don't understand about the whole thing is that nobody at Krause will offer a straight answer as to why Mary was moved, and I happen to know it was not something she desired.

LOL...can you do that? Well then I have to find a kindly Master Smith:D It also means that I have to dust off some of my old 5160, I guess.

That sucks Ed!!!! :grumpy:

Mary is the best... always bending over backwards and running in 18 directions to make sure us makers are accommodated and happy!!!!!!

I hated getting that email about Mary - She was too good at public relations;)

I was just told that she was going over to another full time job. I was treaded very good by the guy who took her place.

I never understood what the problem is with table sharing in the first place. It's always a sold out show so it's not like it would cost them any table revenue.

I have a friend that is a commercial damascus smith that shared a table for two years with someone else before he finally managed to get his own table at the next upcoming Blade Show, and there was'nt a problem that I'm aware of .

yeah i put my name on the list the Thursday morning before the 08 Blade Show, havent heard anything... my name was first on the new "list" for 08.

Guess i need to test this year for JS.

I talked to Mary last year about my spot on the list and I was in second or third place.

I sent her an E-Mail a couple weeks ago just to check in and she referred me to the new guy, who can't find my name on the list

I am not impressed

My 2 cents on table sharing:.............

I pay full price for a table at a show and the two tables next to me each are sharing with another maker. Now I have four guys next to me that I am competing for for a sale. Think about that at a 600 table show...even if only half shared thats 300 more makers in the room that I have to compeat with.
Not cool.

J.S. and M.S. tester half tables are the best thing going.
Joe, You can get a J.S. half table for up to three years I think.
Don't be afraid to test! The absolute worst that can happen is that you fail.....;) Then they will tell you what you need to work on and you can fix it for next year.:D

Just think about what you have learned...apply it to making your knives...make them as nice and clean as you can and just go for it!

Joe and Matt... get your asses in gear and test!!! Hey, if I can do it, you two surely can!!!:thumbup:
