Blade Show

Last year was my first time, when I entered I was simply amazed and knew right then I didn't bring enough cash.

2014 was my first.
That year and even last year I had the same thoughts as Ajack60, "I didn't bring enough cash".
Awe inspiring is what I think.
Even now I still get overwhelmed, both leading up to and during the show.

1997. Wow! Really cool when you get to meet the makers and owners of some great knife producers. Had a great time. Have gone twice since. I spend more money every time I go. Hoping to make it this years. My work schedule is rotating shifts...I'm off all 3 days.

This year will be my first year...I am a beginning custom collector...I started last year and bought 10 knives before my wife put the brakes on...after looking at the hotel prices (gonna cost circa $500 for us) and the prices of booths and tables for exhibitors I am wondering if the custom makers hike their prices to compensate?...I have some money saved for purchases and 7 June is my BD so wife will probably loosen the purse strings but I am like everybody else and want to get the most bang for my buck...

Thanks/bg

My impression is many are there for marketing reasons or put more simply to get their name out there or make sure people know they are still out there. Thus I think I most are happy if they break even on the show. I am sure some will have enough knives that they then can sell and come out ahead as well. At any rate to be competitive I think if anything you might get a better deal there.

Biggest single thing I see in terms of pricing is that you pay GA sales tax on anything purchased (especially if you do not live in GA). Most build the tax into the posted price, so it seems higher. Generally the custom/handmade guys do not negotiate prices at Blade as most often sell everything they brought to the show. Some sell just about everything the first day.

The one thing that continues to change are dealers selling regular knives. I think that's a good thing. Knifeworks is one that had a big spread last year and the year before.
