Where do you get a blade stamp made? When you have one do you just heat and then stamp the blade?
Sorry new to this.

In my opinion, the best stamps are made by Henry Evers Corp. http://www.henryaevers.com/

Although there are some others that are cheaper, I've tried them and had one from an outfit in Nevada that only last 8 impressions before the letters mushroomed beyond use.

You can stamp either cold or hot. I choose to do it hot, right before I harden the blade. You only get one whack at it.....anymore than one hit will usually cause double imprints. Stamping cold is much harder on the stamp, but can be done with either an arbor press or better yet build yourself a tabletop press made with a 12+ ton bottle jack. (Just make sure you build in a secure method for holding the stamp, otherwise it can become a bullet if it slips sideways while pressing.)

You will need to get the stamp made from http://www.henryaevers.com/ and then purchase a small press that utilizes a bottled jack The holder that holds the stamp is something you will need to make or have someone else make it for you. I have a photo of mine in my shop that you can see. :)

You maybe able to purchase the press from Harbor or someone like that. Check out my knife shop tour and you can see mine. I believe you will get the idea. The stamp holder I use is one I made myself. ;)

And to answer your other question concerning when to stamp. You will need to rough cut your pattern out and drill all holes and then stamp. Now the time to heat treat the knife. To stamp or drill after heat treat will destroyed the bits and is hard on stamps and will shortened the lifespan of the stamp. I would not recommend doing it that way.

Also if I remember correctly there is a photo of one of my stamps in my shop tour to see. I have 3 different sizes that I use. I will be getting a smaller size down the road for making folders. Hope you have found this information useful and have a great day. And by the way welcome to bladeforums.

I think Terry meant to type AFTER instead of BEFORE :)

I think if you actually tried it after the blade was heat treated, you'd get a very unpleasant reaction from either the knife or the stamp.

I saw that error in that line. Sorry and thanks for letting me know. It happens from time to time. Its right now. Later friends. ----------:D
