Blade steel - Izula vs. EsKaBar

I figured the majority of Izula owners would be hanging out here, and I bet a good number of them also own an EsKaBar.

I currently have an Izula 1 and really like it. I find myself wanting a longer blade sometimes, and a longer handle some others. I think the EsKaBar is a happy medium.

I have come to really respect Rowen's 1095, and the other knife knuts around here know that the "same" steel from different manufacturers can often have very different characteristics based on their heat treat.

I like the ease of sharpening from Rowen's 1095, and it's relatively long edge holding ability.

For those who have used both, how does the EsKaBar stack up?

I haven't noticed any difference between Becker and Esee steel in actual use cutting things .Both companies produce excellent knives with good steel and the steel itself ( 1095 - Esee/Rowan , 1095 Cr.V -Becker/Kabar) has never been an issue with either company for me. I own multiple knives from each company( including the Izula and Eskabar) and couldn't be happier with the steel. Good 'ole 1095 is great stuff :)

I have both and can detect no difference between the two.
Buy and use with complete confidence:)

i have both kabar brand and esee knives. love them both. to me the heat treat is practically the same in terms of toughness, sharpness, and edge holding( dont let moose tell you different). i personally prefer rowen, but that is mainly because i am in love with there blade coating

The EsKabar is tempered in moose shit while we temper our blades in fairy dust. That's the slight difference.

I KNEW there was a reason I wanted an Eskabar! Ah... reminiscing of the good 'ole days, playing with moose nuggets. If it's tempered with those, it MUST be tough! :p

It is! Wouldn't you much rather have a blade tempered in tough shit than tempered by a bunch of fairies. I know I would!

I would buy either companies knives without reservations!

I would too...and have. Several times I have been at gun shows or shops that sell our knives and I will question the rep about them then buy one, never telling them who I am. I always like to see how our dealers do things.

I originally bought the Becker Necker, Becker Campanion, RAT RC-3MIL and an RC-4 a year and a half/two years ago.....around the time Kabar started producing Beckers and RAT had become their own monster.

I love both of the brands and when I heard that they were doing a collaboration, I felt my pants getting tighter. I was initially confused, but then realized that I should disregard the growth and order one as soon as I could afford it.

I got mine with my name lazer-etched into it and think it's pretty neat. I need to get a tek-lok for it for EDC carry but for now I throw it in a jacket or bag pocket.

If you haven't already, definitely take everyone's advice and pick one up.....you'll love it. It is nice to have the Izula handle with a little longer blade.

That explains the strange odor coming from my BK14 Eskabar. Here I am thinking it was just the packaging:D

They could be improved if tempered in Moose dust and fairy shit :D

Naw, they tried that the on the proto run. Tried to cut a pat of butter to cook some eggs, and the edge chipped all out. Damn think lookes like some one knapped a petrified dog turd into a knife. I think they finally got the right mix.
