By the way, S30V is said by some to be today's "premium" steel. I can;t attest to that because I don't own any, but I know knives with S30V will cost considerably more than say 1095, 154CM, etc, although who's to say that isn;t hype.......

In another thread in Bladeforums several occasions were mentioned in which blades made of S30V from various manufacturers presented chipping under the least challenging cutting chores. This has been a very extensive thread. If one were to mention the bottom line (if there can be an easily described bottom line in such an issue), then they could say that it really depends on the heat treatment. You may have an alloy that has many desirable attributes but you really have to know how to heat treat it properly cause otherwise it just won’t “cut it” ;) .
