Are there any recommendations out there of any steel company's I should look into byeing steel for my first blade

What equipment do you have, or are you sending out to get it heat treated? Your steel choice depends on this information. Alpha Knife Supply is great do deal with if you are in the states, and knifemaker.ca is great in Canada.

If you are buying for your first blade ever, I would recommend buying several pieces of steel. :D
 
I bought about $100 worth of 1095 when i first started making knives about 7 months ago. I have one 12" section left and when it is gone i will be placing an order with new jersey steel baron for that 3/32" 52100, the only place i have found that carries that thickness. They have a pretty good variety of steels.
