Hey guys! I have started to aquire a good amount of blades:o

I see some of you guys have alot of steel. How do you store/display it? Is it all in a drawer or what? Inside the sheaths or not? Mine are in a dresser drawer at the moment, but Im wanting something different, and I need some ideas, I use all my knives so I need to maintain a level of easy access to them for when they are goin into the woods with me.....

i've seen some really cool knife storage cases in the past... the vast majority of the blades i use often, are all in one of my dresser drawers... and the rest are in a hard handgun case i have... i also have some knives that i keep in a few of my packs...

the blades that i store in the case, that have a leather sheath, are wrapped in a cloth of some sort.. they get a light coat of oil on a regular basis...

Handgun hard case is a good idea for the ones that arent in heavy rotation. Thanks mike!
So you dont keep em in the sheaths in the case?

I've heard that prolonged storage in a leather sheath can damage the blade. Don't know if it's true.

Ive heard that too. I wonder if there is truth to it.

It is true. Leather can absorb and retain moisture which in turn can corrode the blade with rust.

Keep the blade well-oiled if you are going to store in leather long-term, and keep it all in a dry cool place.

I usually store mine in half impaled in the dead hooker I keep in my basement....Just kidding I don't have a basement...(sorry for the humor)

I got one of those small, see through Rubbermade tubs with a lid. I keep most of my fixed blades in there. Not much trouble with rust where I live so I keep them all uncoated and in the sheaths.

I dont really care, but I would edit the post because Mods get mad if its not in the whine and cheese. :)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!:D I just aspirated some red bull on that one dude.......:D

My blades all have a thin coat of oil on em when not in use. I might start storing them out of there sheaths to be safe......

Pelican case, each knife in their own spot, with a moisture absorb canister and a VCI pack

(the moisture absorb and VCI are in the bottom of the case)

just my folders in this case, all my fixed blades are in a large Pelican rifle case, and all my axes are in another Pelican rifle case

I keep mine in drawers. But each drawer has an oxygen absorber in it and also some silica gel.

I store them mostly in random drawers made of wood, out of their sheaths. Sometimes, with carbon steel knives, I put a layer of saran wrap on the bottom of the drawer, so the oil on the blades doesn't mess up the whole drawer. The most "valuable" knives I own stay in the gun safe, though, except when they're going to be used. Maybe I'll manage to take a half-decent picture of it tomorrow. :D

My father keeps his collection in a old wooden tool boz with about 6 drawers and lid that lifts for more storage.

I guess if you have a ton of blades, this approach would work great, b/c you wouldnt have to re oil them all the time.......

+1

This knife I received from GL Drew had some surface rust on the blade. I belive it happend because the knife was shipped in the sheath. No biggie it cleaned right up, but prolonged storage should not be in sheath.

As for storage I keep my blades in my gun vault. Someday I would like to put them on display.

I keep many of my knives on display. Those that aren't on display are in drawers. Some I keep in glass-fronted cases from IKEA, each knife held up by a clear plastic stand. Some are wall-mounted (see pics below). I'm using modified brass hooks from the hardware store right now, and they seem to work well. Of course, this option is only really viable if you don't have young kids, pets, or clumsy houseguests. It looks nice, though! Between art, pictures of my trips, and knives, my place looks like a mini museum.
