Blade styles

OK, I collect BM/PCs and am looking at a few others -- I still like and use my stag handled Henckels 3 bladed stockman. Had it for almost 40 years - great knife! :)

I love slip-joints! You're right, they do have alot of character (much more than tacticals IMHO).
I have pocket-knives by Wenger, Victorinox, Buck, Case, Schrade, and Camillus.
Some favorites are: Buck 303 cadet, Camillus 712 yello-jaket congress, Victorinox Electrician, Victorinox Cadet, and my Old Timer Buzz-saw Trapper. These are all great knives.
My only problem is now my Leatherman Micra is starting to replace my slip-joints for EDC.

I just got in my Kershaw Double Cross today. Wow!!!!!

This is a drop dead gorgeous knife!!! I could go on and on, but let's just say that it's the best looking pocketknife in my collection. Kershaw did a very nice job with the cherry wood handles. The rounded styling is outstanding. As far as functionality goes, you can’t get much better either. It has thumb disks for one-hand opening, as well as nail nicks for the old farts. It’s not a slip joint, but better IMHO. There’s a center liner lock that locks the blades on both sides, and nice strong ball detents. This knife exudes quality through and through.

I think I just found a permanent pocketknife to go with my large Sebenza. The Seb comes out for big jobs, and the Double Cross appears for small cutting chores and sheeple filled places. This is a very sheeple-friendly knife. I can’t imagine anything less threatening than a traditional pocketknife, and especially one that with looks like the Kershaw.

The blades are also much to my liking. There’s a very serviceable drop point as the main blade, but it’s the secondary blade that really draws me to it. It’s pretty hard to find a good quality pocketknife with a Wharncliffe blade, but the Double Cross delivers here. If you ask me, the Wharncliffe gets the vote for classiest looking blade shape ever invented.

Yes, the Double Cross is a bit on the expensive side for a pocketknife, but the features and looks more than compensate for the extra buckazoids. Think of it like this. You get the outstanding looks of a Case, coupled with the lock and steel of a CRKT. No more of that darned 440a to deal with. And unlike most pocketknives, the Double Cross actually comes pre-sharpened. What a novelty!!!

If you love traditional pocketknives and slip joints, you should definitely give one of these a try. The Double Cross is a classy, well-made knife. It’s that easy.

I usually carry a Boker Tree Brand 4 blade stag handle as my "social" knife. I've had it for 15 years and it's been a champion. The Bokers make that cool double "click" when you open the blades. I also found my Victornox SAK that was lost when we moved (officially no lost knives in 20 years :D ). You certainly can't beat them for whittlin' or situations where my BM710 is a little too pointy for polite company.

Slipjoint forum?? Hmm, Why isn't there one here at blade forums? I've wondered that for a very long time. After
months of reading (and learning) all the knife forums I find the ever present slipjoint largely ignored. I too am a
huge fan of slip joint because they add so much to my enjoyment ,not to mention variety, of the knife collecting
(and using) hobby. They also are a darned good place for the neophyte to start in the knife hobby. They are most
affordable as well as very socially acceptable. I never have understood the almost fanatical devotion to one hand
black "tactical" knives that ,to the largest extent, populate these forums. There is so much more to see ,
want , own, trade and enjoy with slipjoints. To me it is a market mostly ignored because it is always there.
The more I learn about knives the more I appreciate the slipjoint & the "old" line types of cutlery. Could it be that
others here also find slipjoints to be a favorite but they seldom mention it due the preferance of for one hand
wonders? Let's open the envelope a bit.....start a slipjoint forum.
