I just got in my Kershaw Double Cross today. Wow!!!!!
This is a drop dead gorgeous knife!!! I could go on and on, but let's just say that it's the best looking pocketknife in my collection. Kershaw did a very nice job with the cherry wood handles. The rounded styling is outstanding. As far as functionality goes, you cant get much better either. It has thumb disks for one-hand opening, as well as nail nicks for the old farts. Its not a slip joint, but better IMHO. Theres a center liner lock that locks the blades on both sides, and nice strong ball detents. This knife exudes quality through and through.
I think I just found a permanent pocketknife to go with my large Sebenza. The Seb comes out for big jobs, and the Double Cross appears for small cutting chores and sheeple filled places. This is a very sheeple-friendly knife. I cant imagine anything less threatening than a traditional pocketknife, and especially one that with looks like the Kershaw.
The blades are also much to my liking. Theres a very serviceable drop point as the main blade, but its the secondary blade that really draws me to it. Its pretty hard to find a good quality pocketknife with a Wharncliffe blade, but the Double Cross delivers here. If you ask me, the Wharncliffe gets the vote for classiest looking blade shape ever invented.
Yes, the Double Cross is a bit on the expensive side for a pocketknife, but the features and looks more than compensate for the extra buckazoids. Think of it like this. You get the outstanding looks of a Case, coupled with the lock and steel of a CRKT. No more of that darned 440a to deal with. And unlike most pocketknives, the Double Cross actually comes pre-sharpened. What a novelty!!!
If you love traditional pocketknives and slip joints, you should definitely give one of these a try. The Double Cross is a classy, well-made knife. Its that easy.
