Blade Suggestions Naval Officer....

As an ex-Navy pilot, nothing less than a nice William Henry,
As ship CO, he has no need for a marlin spike and anything Sebenza size is too big for an officer to carry, remember, he's not a sailer but the commanding officer and should have something better than the average enlisted guy might carry-a lot better!!!

Ag Russell has a nice marlinspike with the serrations on the front inch of the blade. To me this makes much more sense especially when dealing with rope. Have a look. They are also quite attractive. Good luck

Something tied into the ship's namesake is always cool. I've served on a few and there is seemingly always something out there relating directly to the ship in question .. even if it is custom.

Much like a knife being given to a service member in a non-combat MOS prior to deployment, consider what it will realistically be used for and how it will be carried. I think the William Henry suggestions are spot on, although of course the price tag is another matter that only you can decide on. Personally, I think there are some Zero Tolerance and Benchmade models that would be great for maintaining that military vibe while also having that "next level" of appearance. I'm also a fan (based on appearance and the cheap CRKT version) of the Jim Hammond Cruiser; the "CG" (collector's grade) version looks beautiful but is pretty big.

You got the right idea. Takes a sailor to know what a sailor would need :)

Hope you decided to go with one of Jim Hammond's knives. They are perfect for a Naval officer.
