Blade Tech Pro Hunter

Don't discount the grip on the Rijbak just yet. The way it is shaped allows the handle to "lock" in your hand, and with the thicker blade (.157") and thicker liners (.080"), coupled with the G-10 overlays, you have a nice thick, but not too thick handle to hang onto. The ergos are really good edge down or edge up. I'm just not sure about the swedge though as it is only on one side of the blade. Is there a reason for it not being swedged on both sides? I was also hoping for thicker liners for the Magnum PH, something on the order of the Rijbaks. I believe there is also a framelock on the drawing board? I saw one of the custom Bogesweski(sp.) framelock folding hunters at AZCK, and I'd love to see Bladetech produce these!:D

I understand that the one sided swedge is supposed to retain the tipstrenght of an nonswedge tip while still promoting penetration like a conventional swedged tip.I think this one side swedge tip is called supersonic or subsonic tip?!

You'll really be happy then!:D Per one of BladeTech's own, on another forum, they are going to be produced!

thanx for the pix mrrrtn and patsknives.... I like the ergos of Wegner's banana shaped handle.....I've got a Spyderco Ocelot, Bladetech Prohunterlite and MLEK Lite......the F&F of the Bladetech's are very good imo

jaislandboy,
Could you elaborate a bit on the differences in using/handling the ProHunter vs. the MLEK?Would be interesting to hear about.
Which one you would recommend as a general use folder, not dedicated huntingfolder?

Thanks,Alex

The MLEK has a tip made for piercing and a slight recurve to the blade. The semi skinner blade the hunter uses is a great shape for general use. I think people are quick to dismiss hunting knives as solely for hunting. I have found this design excels in many uses. If I had to choose one for edc I would, and did, choose the Prohunter. That's not to say the MLEK wouldn't work just fine.

I have carried the Prohunter, Rijbak and the Responder extensively. They are all excellent knives, that carry and cut well. The Prohunter is one of my all time favorite EDCs. Fit and finish is great and the black finish on the Prohunter Extreme holds up well. You really can't go wrong with any of the Blade-Tech products.

I have one of the first DLC-ed Pro-Hunters. I bought it at a gun show from Tim Wegner himself, and he hesitated to sell it because he needed to send one out for photos. I carried it for quite a while and liked it. I think he must have been one of the first to offer the 4-way reversible clip. The grooves on the blade spine are a nice touch too. He is an avid hunter and prides himself on taking his stuff to the field and deliberately beating it up.

The only negatives I can think of are a) it is not very smooth-opening b) it's somewhat heavy (4.3 ozs) for a liner lock--I have frame locks that size that weigh less.
I can think of only two complaints.

Low weight, sufficient strength, flat profile for in-pocket carry, frikkin' great ergo's, brilliant blade shape, ease of opening, sunken liners, fully ambidextrous.

The Millie only has 1 nested liner, is longer and sleaker in profile, and has a weaker tip. tip up carry only..

The Blade Tech is almost an exact copy of the Spyderco Wegner, which is discountinued. Wonder why . . .

I have two of the Spye Wegners and they are my favorite folders - although they stay in the safe more often then not.

Where did you find the Magnums, I have not seen them at the online stores I browse? Thanks

Directly from Blade-tech is the best. You may contact them and see if they have a list of dealers.

Got my green Pro Hunter Magnum hunter today. Wow! It really is like rekindling an old flame. :boogie: I especially like that little bit of added heft. One of my favorite things about the original Spyderco Wegner was that full length steel backspacer and the heft it had. Don't get me wrong, this knife isn't heavy but it does feel solid.

Mmmm:D
I would also want to have one of the magnums (probably orange again).

Do you have any pics to compare it with 'slim' Pro Hunter?? I would realy want to see the difference in thickness ...specialy all(handles and blade closed) together for pocket carry.

Thanks

Hi,these prohunters look interesting. What is the difference between the prohunter extreme and the prohunter "magnum" extreme.Price was about $80/difference.But on the website ,the description seem similar and the weight for both are given as 4.8 ounces.
Shootist16, which of these versions did you get?.Do you still have your spyderco wegner or has it been completely replaced by the prohunter.Thank you.
