i have been having trouble with my lockbacks being too tight and not working properly. if I make the blade thiner by 5 th" the blade wobbles if I make them the other way they are too tight. I start out with 3/16 01 for the blade and then 1095 for the locking hammer, should they be identical in thickness? or should one be smaller they are a single blade Italian style SB

Jerry, are you using washers? If so you need to either relieve the liners or make the blade thinner to compensate. Most people I know relieve the liners.

No washers. should I? with no washers does the metal on both pieces need to be the same thicknees?

I've always been told that the blade and the lockbar should be the same thickness unless you use washers. Perhaps ease off on the tightness of the pivot just a bit. If you're peining the pivot in are you putting any shim stock underneath?

You want your backspacer to be same thickness as blade + washers.if your blade is .125 you could use .156 backspacer and .015 washers.this will leave just a couple thou extra for clearance.as the blade gets thicker,so does backspacers.

the lockbar should be around 5000th thinner than the blade if you are peening the pins do so carefully as the pin starts to spread check every 5 taps when the blade starts to lose its wobble spread your liners apart. i use a piece of micarda for this and continue checking every 2 taps untill the liner wont spread and the play is gone also peen the lockbar just enough to fill your holes then stop. hope this helps
