I heat treated a blade today (see other thread) then went ahead and stuck it in the toaster oven for tempering, and when I took it out, 1st cycle, to my surprise it had warped, about 1/8 inch, very even from tip to tail

so what I am wondering, do blades warp in the tempering cycle a lot? or is it more likely that it warped when I quenched it and simply didn't notice, this has not happened before, I have tested the OCS 5160 to destruction numerous times, however this is the longest piece I have worked with 11" 1/2 long

The fix was easy, I just stuck it back in the forge and started all over again, kind of a pain, but its all good now

Blade can warp if you lay them down on the rack in the oven.

ya I laid it down on the rack alright, think I am going to have to look for a bigger oven, the one I have is small and the blade sits very close to the elements

The bigger oven is a good idea. Blades that sit in a tempering oven, close to the heating coils can easily overheat. A slotted rack is worth looking into.
