Blade warps away from point of grinding?

Not sure what you are asking exactly...
Does the blade warp while grinding? I suppose if you got the blade really hit it could warp back away from the grinder. Typically, your blade should t be getting that hot though.

I’ve had this happen with thin AEB-L kitchen knives. They had to be bent back by hand.

What steel is the blade, what thickness is the blade, at what point in the process is this occurring?

Haha ok sorry gang for that. Yes, a post-HT .100 stainless clad VG-10 core for a 7" chef with a hidden tang.

I primarily grind kitchen knives in AEB-L and they do tend to warp. I was eyeballing it last night doing the distal taper and trying to decide where I needed to take it down.

But does it warp towards or away from the heat? I'm doing it wet so I don't think there is much but I just couldn't remember which way it wants to warp. My thought would be away from the heat.

The heated surface expands and thus warps the blade away from the point of contact. It should return to straight somewhat when it cools off, and can be hand straightened. When grinding the other side, it usually evens out. Switching back and forth between sides is also a way to minimize this problem. It can really be problematic in .060" and thinner blades.
