35 years developing software and anytime I use a null rake in the Fall I do not seem to gather too many leaves.

Wrong time of year. Null rakes should only be done in the spring...when there's nothing to rake ;)

Unless you have Live Oaks, then you have piles and piles of leaves and powder covered pollen stems, everywhere.

Its flippin EVERYWHERE! :barf:

You're doing it wrong. It's a left-handed null rake.

The forum is still running fairly slow for me - every once in awhile it hangs to the point where I'm afraid it won't load... again.

Hi trelane -

It is a little slower than it had been in the recent past, but acceptable from my end.

I assume you have reviewed the database and checked for statements that are doing table scans, and implemented appropriate indexing in those cases.

vbulletin is not, in my experience, always configured with optimal indexing.

The chattiness is not going to show up in a ping, as I am sure you are aware.

what I notice most is this;when I click on settings which I often do to check my subscribed threads,it takes up to 30 seconds to load.I am not winning it is just different than before.

unfortunately there's not much you can do with their DB schema that isn't hugely labor intensive on a site this size. actually _ENABLING_ xcache has helped, but handling 4x the db queries vs before is going to beat on any solution.
ice-pic: your user settings wouldn't be cached and so would actually have to be read from the database. Unfortunately this takes time. The hangup right now is disk. I'm caching everything I possibly can to ram.
mqqn: I'm trying to test subjective experience, and eliminate latency as a possible cause of slowness (since I can't make the internet faster).
and before I forget, thank you all for the time answering my questions

I assume you are admin on the server - if it is vmware and on an ESX host, check to make sure you have tier 1 disk - and configure multiple dedicated luns to the slice to maximize the disk performance. You probably already know this..... good luck!

I have been having problems with this PC with web pages that load slowly or not at all, but when I log on to BF for some reason my PC runs fine on this site. Yet when I log off the problems return. Some kind of bug or trojan maybe?

If I'm not mistaken, your Gold membership status implies you won't have to load (or see) the advertising on the site, which would otherwise load if you were browsing as a 'guest' (not logged on), or with an unpaid 'registered user' account. I'm speculating (completely), but that's the big difference that came to mind. The loading of the ads might slow things down, when you're not logged on.

Today I am on the laptop with win 7 and BF is running fine, running scans separately on the old machine. I have ruled out PC problems, I remember Spark had problems with the banner adds before.
