I'll tell you what I'm impressed with - beyond the obviously fantastic knives - is the quality of the commentary by the membership here. Different people chose different knives for different reasons, but those reasons reflected a pretty thourough understanding and appreciation of the subject matter. I really enjoyed reading your comments - thanks much for your participation.

Congrats to Burt Foster and to all of the makers whose inspired work is displayed in both this and the original thread.

And congrats to all of the photographers - professional and amateur - without whom this thread wouldn't exist. It's a great loss, in my opinion, that so many fantastic knives are never photographed - they travel from maker to collector, never to be appreciated by anyone (or comparatively very few) else.

Next year, hopefully we will have an even larger field of drool-inspiring entries.

Happy 2008 to all!

Roger

Congratulation to Burt and ALL the makers represented in these threads. What a great way to start the NEW Year.

Congrats to Mr. Foster and all that took part in this. You guys have some fantastic blades. Happy New Year and wishing the best to all of you and yours in the New Year

Great knife Burt! Well done!:thumbup:

Additional kudos to RogerP, who has TWO of the finalists, including the winner.
Kevin Jones who has BOTH Dean feather El Diablos
I think Guido has the Knight, an MS test piece.
I am not sure who has the the Hanson, but you have an absolute stunner!

I have a few knives in the fire for 2008, to try and give you guys a decent run next time out. ;)

This was allot of fun, I learned some things too. Thanks for starting it Roger.

Congratulations to Burt Foster and a Happy New Year to you all!

This IMO, was a very good "Best Of" thread that clearly shows the quantity and quality of outstanding handmade Bowies shared here on Blade Forums. ALL excellent Bowies and excellent participation from the membership:

• 64 Bowies nominated

• 201 votes in determining the top five Bowies.

• 130 votes in determining positions 1-5.

• 10 additional Bowies were within 3 votes of making the top five.

• 2 Bowies were within 1 vote of breaking into the top five.

• Less than 8% of votes separating each place 1-5.

• Less than 25% of votes separating first place from fifth place.

• 8900 total views between both threads.

• 301 total responses between both threads. *

*even though we probably could have done without the last dozen or so on the first thread.:barf:;):D:D:)

I've been agonizing over this for days, and finally just put my vote in. I have been torn between Don's and Burt's...

...and only just now decided on Burt's because he offered me fifty bucks to vote for him.:D:D:D I'm kidding!

The final caveat in my decision making was the steel, and the difficulty and control it took to get that marvelous carbon migration 'effect'. WONDERFUL!!!!

I still can't believe I didn't vote for Don's knife, as it actually has everything I would want in a piece in this style!

As nuts as this may sound, this was an incredibly hard vote for me to place... ANY ONE OF THESE KNIVES can be viewed as a priceless gem, to me!

See, Kevin, that's why you're the numbers guy. :) Nice overview.

Roger

Wait!!! I'd like to vote for myself...

:D :D :D

*literally laughing out loud*

CONGRATS to Burt! Not so much on the title as this was all for fun, but more on the fact that he created such a stunning piece!!!

Can't wait to see what he has cooked up for Reno! :D

Congrats to Burt! This was a great thread .... I'm still going back and looking at the picks in the original thread ... amazing knives!
