NEW FORUMS!!!:
The Bernard Levine Knife Collecting and Identification Forum
Welcome Bernard Levine to BladeForums.Com. He now moderates The Bernard Levine Knife Collecting and Identification Forum in our general section.
Who is Bernard Levine?
Bernard Levine is the leading full-time writer on knives and cutlery in the world today. Since 1971, he has researched the history and identification of knives, as well as the art and technology of knifemaking. Besides the four widely acclaimed editions of his Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values (1985, 1989, 1993, 1997), his knife books include; Knifemakers of Old San Francisco (1978; 2nd edition 1998), The Knife Identification and Value Guide (1981), The Knife Collection of Albert Blevins (1988), Pocketknives, a Collector's Guide (1993), and Identifying Pocketknives (1998).
Since 1974 he has been a regular contributor to Blade Magazine, and has published hundreds of feature articles about knives in this and other periodicals. Since 1978 he has written the popular monthly "Whut Izzit" feature for Knife World Magazine, in which he identifies, explains, and evaluates unusual knives. From 1988 to 1996 he wrote the wide-ranging feature, "Bernard Levine's Knife Lore," for the National Knife Magazine, and his "From U.S.A. Report" for Tokyo's Knife magazine.
Mr. Levine serves as an advisor and consultant on cutlery to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, to the California Academy of Sciences, and to other leading museums. He has testified as an expert witness in a wide variety of knife related court cases and commission hearings around the country. He has done knife research and appraisals for hundreds of individual, corporate, and government clients around the world.
Mr. Levine is a life member of the National Knife Collectors Association and of the National Rifle Association, and an honorary member of the Knifemakers Guild and The American Bladesmith Society. In 1994 he was inducted into the Blade Publications Cutlery Hall of Fame.
Bernard Levine is a native of Boston. He attended Commonwealth School and Harvard College. From 1969 to 1987 he lived and worked in California. He now lives in Eugene, Oregon, where he is active
in the Oregon Knife Collectors Association.
So if you have any knives laying around that you can not identify, or you think they may be worth some $$$, you may want to visit Mr. Levines forum and give him a detailed description. Who knows you may be looking at your retirement!
Busse Combat Knives Forum:
Perhaps one of the most talked about fixed blade knives on our forums are the knives from Busse Combat. Featuring their awesome proprietary INFI steel, Busses knives are called Nuclear Tough. All hype aside, these knives have out performed virtually every other knife we have ever tested. Check out our tests in our To The Point On-line magazine and visit the Busse Combat Knife Forum.
Whats New!
The "What's New" forum is a place where any manufacturer or maker can showcase their newest products and services in real time. (No sales are permitted in this forum)
The advantages of this forum for any manufacturer are;
New forums in the Community section!
Using suggestions from you, our members, we have just opened up several new forums in the community section to allow members in certain geographic areas to have a place to hang out.
The new forums include: US, Europe, South America, Canada, Africa & Middle East, Asia and Australia. So no matter where you are in the world, stop in and just say hello. You may be surprised to find that many members may be living right next door to you. Who knows, you might find your next best friend.
NEED A FORUM?
With our new software in place, we now have the ability to host an unlimited number of forums. Whether youre a dealer or custom knife maker, we can host a dedicated forum for you. The cost is $299.95 per year for custom knife makers or dealers who currently have a 1 year banner with us. If you do not have a banner you may visit http://www.bladeforums.com/banners.html
Are you a manufacturer or Knife magazine?
If so, you can have a forum hosted at BladeForums.Com FREE of charge!
Join Buck, Busse Combat, Camillus, Chris Reeve, Emerson, Ghurka House, Himalayan Imports, JSP Blade Rigger, Outdoor Edge, Round Eye Knife & Tool and Spyderco.
Why would you want a forum?
The Internet provides you with a perfect medium to allow your customers access to your customer service departments. Lets face it, how many times does your customer service department answer the same question each day? Questions like; When is X model coming out? How do I return a product for service? These are questions you would only need to answer once on a forum. Then, when a customer visits your forum they can search for answers to their questions. This also helps reduce your 800 bill!
Plus many manufacturers who already have a forum are using them in very unique ways.
For example; Outdoor Edge recently had a contest to name a new knife coming out. Sometimes it is just hard to name a knife; so you can have a contest to help your company name a new product. David Bloch, president of Outdoor Edge, was so impressed with the overwhelming response that he even used our forum to name his new company! Not to mention he used us to build his new web site
Round Eye Knife & Tool polled our members to see what they wanted in a new knife. Based on those suggestions the SiFu was born. You can see it in an upcoming Tactical Knives article.
All in all, BladeForums offers you direct access to the end user. If you ever need quick feedback, you will find BladeForums is the perfect medium to do this in real time.

Our Server Status:
If you checked into the forums on Monday & Tuesday you may have noticed we were down for some time. Our server is co-located at FDN.com, which is our ISP. They are upgrading their system and moving to a class 5 switching facility. While the move was underway, they inadvertently disconnected our router, effectively shutting us down. During the down time, Spark and I felt it would be a good time to upgrade our server software to the newest version. During the upgrade we ran into problems and it took us the better part of that day and Tuesday to correct it.
The good news is that the upgrade is complete and after the move, which should occur later today, you should notice an increase in our servers performance and overall speed.
Need a web site?
Part of our service is building or offering assistance on web site design and promotion. If you already have a web site you may just need a clean up job.
Take a look at what we did for Outdoor Edge.
Here is a link to the old Outdoor Edge site. www.outdooredge.com/old
Here is the new site we build for them. www.outdooredge.com
Or maybe you are a custom knife maker like Bob Hollar. Look at what we did for him.
Old site http://cu.imt.net/~goshawk/old/
New site. http://cu.imt.net/~goshawk/
We have build many web sites including www.missionknives.com, www.rekat.com and more. We are currently building a new web site for Camillus Cutlery. It should be up in a couple of weeks.
Or maybe you just need web site promotion. Are you among those who can not even find your own web site in the search engines? If so we can help. To see how good we are, do a search for any brand name knife, in any search engine and see where BladeForums shows up in the results.
Example: If you use Internet Explorer, click on the search icon and do a search for "knives" or click on the link below. http://search.msn.com/results.asp?q=knives&co=15&RS=CHECKED&FORM=SMCB&ba=0&v=1&un=doc
