Knife knowledge is shared freely here, and I have found more established craftsman are often very generous to help newer craftsman with advice and tips, in the forums, or through private messaging, even if they are essentially the competition. If our competition is doing well, then they are only driving even more interest to our hobby, creating an ever growing pool of people to serve, thus I hope and pray for the prosperity of all Bladeforums craftsmen and craftswomen. It seems to me that many, if not most of the craftsman here share a similar mindset, or why would they be so helpful?

And the knife buying community - at least those I have had the good fortune of dealing with - are generous of spirit, and sincere in their love for not only cutlery, and the processes by which it is made, but also for those who make it, even when their (my!) progress in the craftsmanship journey, and learning the industry, may have been at times, let's say, maybe a little bumpy. 😬 But Bladeforums has been to me the most amazing opportunity I've ever had to learn, grow, and share the love of sharp steel, and everything related to it. Without Bladeforums I am sure I would not even be the meager knife maker I am so far today. Thank you Bladeforums - and every individual here I have thus far had the good pleasure to learn from, and to serve.

Well said. People trash it on places like reddit.. but I honestly have made more of a connection with people here than any other knife community. Also learn a lot from the threads both past and present here.

The vast amount of knowledge you could pick up be it HT info, collector info on basically every brand knife there is, new tricks on your sheath making, or blacksmithing, just general info on new releases, hell even if your new you could learn more about things like grinds and what they look like/are for, etc..

I'd say you hit it on the head. Overall this is the best spot there is for all your knife related loves. We are gruff with each other sometimes.. but I think generally this is an outstanding community and hope it survives us all. The world would truly lose a treasure trove of knowledge if this place closed down.

Reddit is ok for buying and selling, but there is zero community there. Too much soy me thinks

You're probably not wrong brother 😂

I've made a couple sales on there, but it seems so impersonal by comparison. Not that it needs to be or anything.. I just have an attachment to my blades I guess.

I like to know someone who will appreciate it gets it. Idk. I guess it doesn't matter. Still though

Reddit is full of snowflakes across almost all subs, with zero civic sense, full of entitlement, and pretty much posting from their mom's basement with close to zero real life experience. Yes, there may be good folks on reddit, but it is like finding needle in a haystack. As a consequence, I deleted my account on reddit.

Well said David , I also found years ago when I started this hobby that many many other knife makers were always happy to help and share there knowledge and this was before I ever got on this forum and I have learned a lot from this forum .

I can say that I’ve learned an absolute crap ton on this site. The knowledge base, on everything, not just knives, is pretty incredible. If BF was a city, there’d be some fist fights but I think more concerning would be the amount of beer drinking and laughing that we’d all do.
