• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

If any of you talked to James, you knew how important his "good karma cut" program was to him.

Since Toni has asked that no flowers or such be sent, I would like to propose that we all pitch in and make a donation to a charity that James supported.

To quote his page:
----

In a knife we see the tension between creation and destruction, a universal tool that can be easily mistaken for a weapon. Why not start out your ownership of a new sharp object with a good deed? With orders of $50 or more, you will get the product you bought, along with a check from me, payable to the good cause of your choice, for 10% of the purchase price in a pre-addressed envelope for you to mail. This policy is not pure goodness of my heart, but is partly intended to make up for the fact that some other outfits have such amenities as full time help and regular business hours, and I don't. Pick one of the groups listed below, some of which reflect my outlook and affiliations, some of which are local, and some of which are rather universal, or pick your favorite. "It takes all kinds of people . . . ," so I reserve the right to decide that some outfit is something I want nothing to do with, and suggest an alternative, or refer somebody to one of many more conventional vendors.

American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Amnesty International, Bet Tzedek Legal Services, Catholic Relief Services, Church World Service, Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, Human Rights Watch, KCRW (local public radio station), Los Angeles Zoo, National Wildlife Federation, Oxfam America, Reason Foundation, Temple Beth Emet of Burbank (my congregation), United Jewish Appeal

Given James' particular distaste for oppressive regimes and his attempts to boycott products from those nations, I'd nominate Amnesty International.

Maybe Spark can set up a purchase button on 1SKS and we can put in our donations online. Or maybe we can do it the old fashioned way and mail someone the money.

Regardless, we should do it.

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes by suggesting this. It's not my forum after all, but I hope this takes off.

Put me down for $20. Maybe more...
Tom
