So some of you guys saw in the feedback forum that I got screwed on a recent knife sale. Tim West, AKA gogators 766, bought a boker from me and I never received his money order so he got the ban hammer. However, even though I'm sad to be out a boker Albatross, I still absolutely love this website and I one bad transaction won't change my attitude about this forum :) Just take my bad luck as a lesson, make sure you have the payment in hand before you mail your knife away

Good attitude my friend there really are more good people than bad on this forum. Bummer about your knife though.

I'm sorry we couldn't convince Tim to do the right thing. It's been said before but it bears repeating (from the rules):

Sellers/Selling -
1. Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item, have it in your possession and clearly list the selling price. There is no "testing the waters" or "gauge buyer interest".
2. Activate/Enable your ability to receive email and private messaging, from members, moderators, and administrators; you must display your correct membership level.
3. Be honest and provide an accurate & detailed description of the item. Don't forget to mention defects, blemishes, new, used, or other problems. When in doubt, be pessimistic with your descriptions.
4. Provide as many photos as possible, in the best lighting possible. It's always nice for buyers to see what they are going to get.
5. Be specific with all details of payment. There is no eBay style auctioning allowed. If you want to entertain trade offers, say so in your sales thread (For Sale Or Trade); it is allowed.
6. If you have a Gold or higher membership you may list currently active threads in your signature. Please, no giant billboards and no links to eBay.
7. Consolidate your threads. If you have multiple knives to sell, post them in a single thread. Or you can do different threads on different days. You are only allowed 1 sales thread, per day, per forum. Let's keep it fair for everyone.
8. You must wait 14 days (2 weeks) to relist an item.

Buyers/Buying -
1. Be 100% sure that you can financially afford to purchase the item before offering to do so. If you cannot commit 100% to buying the item. Be responsible and use your best judgement.
2. Ask questions before the deal is agreed upon, make sure you want the item being sold and that the price is affordable to you.
3. Be prompt with your payment. The seller has the right to determine how they want payment and if they will work with you.

4. Provide an accurate shipping address. Make sure the seller has that shipping address. Open and clear communication via email or Private Messaging is encouraged between the parties involved.
5. Do not post in a person's thread unless you have an implicit interest in buying the item. Posts like, "Nice knife!", "Why is the price so high/low?", "I wish I had funds" are not allowed. This means absolutely no commentary or feedback in someone's sales thread. Seriously, if you stomp on someone's ad, your account can and will be locked. The only exception to this is in the Custom Knife Exchange areas (if the maker/craftsman requests and welcomes feedback)
6. Malicious Buyers will be permanently banned from the forums. If you have a problem being honest, upfront, and are unable to honor your word then you do not belong here.
7. If you must back out of a deal, it is YOUR responsibility to communicate with the other person WHY you are unable to complete the transaction. Make sure this happens BEFORE any money or items have been exchanged. Problems should be attempted to be resolved between the persons involved.

The rules for buyers that are underlined were not adhered to as a result the other member was banned. Unfortunately, some folks have no idea what they are doing here on the forums. We try our best to take care of our own, and don't tolerate theft, lying, or other assorted stupidity.

Sorry for your aggravation

A buddy of mine had a similar issue while purchasing a firearm. He sent a MO and heard nothing for 2 weeks.

He finally typed in the offender's mailing address in to google streetview and took a screen shot of the guy's house.
He attached the photo to an email where he asked the offender "is this where I have to go to see you and talk about this transaction"

The offender contacts him n 10 min and shipped the item immediately.

Just an idea

After seeing all the reproachful actions that have occurred on here I was always a little hesitant to join in the Exchange. I eventually decided to give it a try and threw a few offers out here and there. I have only done one transaction (trade) so far and I was extremely satisfied with the result. We had great communication and since I was dealing with an experienced member (more than +40 feedback) I gladly shipped first. The deal was initiated on a Sunday and we both had our knives by Friday. While this was my first and only deal (so far) Ive come to realize that for every one bad transaction there seems to be 100, 200, shoot maybe 500 deals that go well for both parties. Hiccups do occur. People do screw up sometimes but it mostly works out. You will always have a few bad apples that try to ruin a good persons day and mar what is an enjoyable part of this hobby. Keep the positive attitude that you've taken from this lesson and stay sharp buddy.

I followed that thread and I'm very sorry to hear it wasn't resolved satisfactorily. Life lessons are often painful, but I think you'll find the majority of people here are great, hardworking, truthful and honest folk who would gladly give the shirt off their back for someone in need.....and I don't mean that rhetorically! I've had two great years here, met truly wonderful people and have enjoyed almost every transaction and conversation I've had.....you are amongst friends within the confines of Bladeforums....as Revdevil said we police our own!!

Honestly, after reading the replies of the other individual in that thread, I was not the least bit surprised that he did not live up to his responsibilities as a buyer. Kudos to Spyderco Lover and the mods for the way they handled that situation.

I've been following these types of threads as much as possible, in order to get to know who is who and the way people handle themselves during a conflict says a lot about an individual. Spyderco Lover showed me to be a level headed guy that I wouldn't hesitate to do business with. The other guy didn't get banned by accident.

I've done 6 deals so far here, all as a buyer, and every one has been handled perfectly. I'm impressed with this forum so far.

That is awesome! Dont know how safe that is as it could end badly for a number of reasons but still pretty cool.

Thanks for the support guys, RevDevil really did help me a lot with that transaction. It's sad because I've had so many great experiences and one guy just decided to be a royal jerk about a cheap knife. However with all the great people I've met on here I have no qualms about continuing conducting business through the exchange

Thanks for the kind words S L. I'm glad that you feel that way about the forums. I will say that you kept your cool in a situation where many people would have lost their stuffing and resorted to the same behavior as the other individual. If we can help with anything, please don't hesitate in asking.

+1 to that. I also feel there is a lot to learn from the exceptional individuals, and one can raise his/her bar of good behavior by reading the GBU sub forum.

Honestly I doubt they'll be able to do anything for me, unless they make him return my knife

Now that you have a case number from the PIO contact the PD in his area and file a report with them . You may be surprised what they may do to retrieve your property .

BTW very sorry you had to deal with this type of BS …JW
