Just got a River City sheath for my BladeForums SE Sifu yesterday, it ROCKS! Put on some sweats and hooked the sheath w/knife to a belt while working the heavy bag, striking post, and doing some judo/aikido falls with no knife loss. Then I took the belt off and just used the G clip on the waist band of the sweats while repeating the workout. Had a bit of creeping of the sheath along the waist band but the knife was still secure. Later I grabbed the sheath and tried to throw the knife out like a baseball pitch and after a quick series of 10 "pitches" the knife was still secure. Even with such a secure/solid mold the knife will release smoothly with a deliberate tug. If any of you are in need of sheath work for your single grooved Sifu Mike is 'da man!

Clyde

Clyde,
Could you list the website of where you got the sheath done? I have been interested in sheath work for my Sifus as well. Thanks

Rawhide, can you describe the sheath with more detail? Material used for sheath? Material used for clip? How does the knife sit in the sheath (completely enclosed or partially enclosed)? Deployment method/options (e.g., cross-draw)? Horizontal or vertical carry? Thanks.

The sheath is black Concealex that covers about 3.5" of the Sifu, it molds right over the end of the pocket clip. It is attached to a molded G shaped clip held in place with 2 Cincinnati(?) screws. I really like the clip being a G shape rather than a enclosed box because it allows it to catch on the waist band of sweats or fleece pants which is what I wear a lot of the year. In talking with Mike he could do things like Tek Loks, horizontal/canted carries, IWB, etc. I wanted a simple (KISS) bomber sheath and that's what he made. He can be reached at VideoSAS@aol.com. I don't think his site http://www.rivercitysheaths.com/ is cranked up yet. I put up a couple of pics at the URL below.

Clyde

Clyde,

THANKS. The photos are great. The sheath looks like just the thing I was looking for. Great for SOB carry from the looks of it. I appreciate your posting this stuff so quickly. Ah the Sifu family, What a great bunch!! Take Care, and Thanks again.

I also carry my finger-grooved Sifu in one of Mike Sastre's sheathes. Mine is rigged with a TekLok so I can adjust it for different carry directions as my needs require. Usually that just means vertical, but I do occasionally use inverted and forward horizontal as well.

The sheath is very secure, but I can draw from it to an open guard position in less than half my best time from a pocket. Mike does great work!

Hey Clyde,

Thanks for the great post and pictures! Made a couple extra sheaths while I had your SE SIFU here - one black abd one CF Concealex. Since I'm from the Cincy area, "Cincinnati" screws works for me but probably won't play in Chicago. Thanks again1

SYOTR,
Mike

Hi Clyde,
I want to thank you for turning me on to Mikes sheaths. I just got mine in for my SE Sifu. You were totally correct. This sheath ROCKS!! I got the Carbon Fiber look Concealex with the clip like yours. It not only looks great, but works like a charm.I found that I like the sheath mounted upside down. Drawing from this position puts the hand in the perfect position for instant opening.

Thanks to you also Mike if you are out there. This is a super sheath, and you were prompt, friendly and helpful. A consumer could not ask for a better product or better service. I look forward to dealing with you again in the future.

Mike Satre's the man when it comes to making thermoform sheaths.

I own several of them and no one makes them better IMHO.

Very nice work as usual, Mike! Hope you get into the water more this year and play some more.

ArchAngel,
Glad Mike could hook you up! Yes, he does craft some fine sheaths...and you should see him handle a Bowie!

10-4 on the having fun. I caught up with him on the river after a show a few weeks ago. He hasn't forgotten how to paddle but snortin' all that Concealex might have thrown his timin' off a bit.

Clyde

Say Clyde -- I don't want to get all weird on you or anything man, but if you look at the circular indentation to the right of the clip on the sheath, in picture #1, there appears to be a man's face there. Strange.

A question -- sorry if it seems dumb, but am very non-mechanical I fear -- is this sheath strictly a vertical affair, with the pivot end up above the belt/waistband to which the G-clip is attached? Or is the direction of the G-clip moveable?

Thanks,

The clip can be dismounted and turned in different directions. I tried mine mounted horizontal on the belt for SOB carry. That works well, but I like upside down the best.

Bugs3x,
Hmmm...Does look like someone peerin' out at 'ya. You never know with Mike, he is a crafty and diabolical rascal...course he would take that as a compliment!

The 2 eyelets on the sheath are 1.5" apart. The G-clip I have on it now has 4 mounting holes set in a square pattern, each 1.5" apart so you could twist and flip it in different orientations. Now if you didn't mind a slightly larger sheath Mike could use more material and add additional eyelets for more mounting options.
Regards,
Clyde
