With Richard J temporarily out of commission while he rests up from surgery, Ken (bladeforums user unit) stepped in to take care of any sharpening needs in the meantime. I sent him two higher-end slip-joints this past week with horrible factory edges, and one with the tip burnt off. He brought them down to 40 degrees inclusive with a convex finish and they are now blistering sharp with shiny uniform grinds. The new tip on the mangled blade is nice and pointy and can't even tell that it had to be re-shaped. Despite the fact that he works by hand, the turn around time was near instantaneous, I had them back on my doorstep within a few days. And like Richard, Ken kept me up to date every step of the way and left no questions unanswered. A really cool guy who's good at what he does
Ken did make this clear to me, which I believe speaks volumes about his character: "I would be happy to help you out in the future as well, but once Richard is back in business, please support him. He does this for a living, I'm more of a hobbiest."
So while we wish Richard a speedy recovery, his interim stand-in can definitely be trusted for top-notch results
