BladeHobbit strikes again!

thank you all very much. I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Joe, that kind of encouragement could get a guy into trouble!

we're going to try to get out wednesday morning for another shoot, but my hands are shredded from a crash I sustained on my bicycle today. Fortunately it was right at the very end, so I was able to get my yayas out. Oozing wounds- pretty gross. My wife isn't impressed :D.

fortunately my right hand isn't in too bad of shape, all things considering...going to be an interesting sleep tonight methinks (ouch). But I should be down for some hacking within a couple days.

I have sustained some great road rash from bike crashes, but I had one on inline skates in shorts that took the cake. I was going about 35mph, and slid out. Took a patch off my left calf (on the side) about the size of a calzone. Luckily there was a parked car to stop me from sliding any further. We kept skating for about another 4 hours. Picking the dried in pebbles out of my skin later sure hurt!

I got out this morning and got a little work done with the Mighty SMC;

This is raw footage, not extremely interesting and staring too long at the first one might make you feel ill!

I'll be crunching these and more into a tidy edit that should be more enjoyable to watch, but I figured some of you guys might want a sneak peek.

Cool videos Lorien . The Wheeler performed very well but I must admit , as hard as Nick's knives are to get , I would have a hard time putting that first scratch on it -

thanks Jerry!
You are in the majority I think, when it comes to physically using custom knives. I'm sure that there are others, like me, who spend a good deal of time using these things, but we're more the exceptioin, than the rule. For me, using knives in the way that they were designed to be used gives me great satisfaction- joy, even. I've never been one who feels fulfillment by way of owning a thing, (not that I think there's anything wrong with that) it's just the way I roll.

Nothing wrong with that Lorien . I have a big chopper coming from Lin sometime this year I plan on using the hell out of -

I'd love to have a knife by Lin, I can't wait to see what you've got in the works.
In general, I'm most interested in knives that are imbued with 'physicality' and by that I mean knives which are made by guys who also like swinging them around, and are physically active in general.
I can usually tell by the looks of a knife whether or not its designer/maker is informed more by their physical understanding than by a strictly aesthetic sense. For example, I sought out Jason Knight for the Sooke Mountain Chopper because I can tell from his body of work that he's informed by an underlying physical knowledge. That he also has a keen aesthetic motivation is what makes him a great knife maker/designer.

up and outta bed before sunrise, for a little trail work.
Heading out again tonight with Big Red.

Very cool Lorien I think you may have found your niche soon folks from all over the world will be sending you there knives just to see them in one of your videos

now there's a nice thought! Kind of hoping something might materialize along those lines, but for the time being this is strictly fun and edumacation for me.

I've damaged at least 5 of my custom knives to varying degrees, (mostly edge deformation, generally nothing serious) by using them in the way that you see in the videos, not to disparage any of them- this is abusive work. Only by pushing the limits can I find out how far they can go. I don't revel in causing damage, but I do revel in using a custom knife to its max, particularly those with a good work ethic. Some knives just have this draw to them that keeps me swingin em.
