Ordered a few knives from BladeHQ as Christmas presents. Received the Civivi Cogent in unbelievably poor condition- I've never seen anything quite like it. Blade falls open, has no detent whatsoever, fails to lockup, rattling unbelievably.

Took video, contacted BladeHQ, asked that they send replacement via same expedited shipping method that I paid for in the original order. They agreed. I also asked that they check the replacement knife before sending it out. I guess they didn't do that.

Today, the replacement arrived right in time for Christmas. Super stoked. Same exact issue. No one checked this one either.

When I called again today, the rep told me that they don't check knives before they send them out, and the manufacturer does it. Well, apparently not Civivi, and call me old fashioned, but I think especially on a return, you might want a live person in the warehouse/store to check and make sure the replacement knife doesn't have the same issues as the last one.

Now I'm short a Christmas present. I'm not thrilled with that service, to be honest. Spend tons of money over the years there and for them to just blindly send out the replacement without taking 30 seconds to check it, that bums me out. I also wish they seemed like they cared to make it right at all, but that's not there either.

Just wanted to share my experience. Thanks all!

Hey there! I am so sorry to hear this! Will you please email me at info@bladehq.com and put ATTN Tiffany in the subject line so I can look into this and take care of it? Thank you! ~Tiffany

I find that a bit odd for BHQ and Civivi. Civivi has had some of the best action in budget knives I've come across and normally punch well above their price tag.

I would have thought BHQ would make an exception on the lack of an inspection since it was a return, but I can also see someone picking and packing going, "it couldn't happen twice, right?"

Seems Tiffany is already on it so hopefully it gets sorted out, even though that's a big bummer it won't be there for Christmas.

I agree. I've always had good luck with both BHQ and Civivi. This was really disappointing all around though.

civivi has those factory stickers on the box. they arent the only one anymore. cold steel and few others do it now also. so soon as its cut open it cant be sold as new easily or at all. this isn't a brand that makes packaging easy to check without being stuck with open box that no ones gonna want. so it complicates the checking process.

Of all the retailers I’ve had experience with, I’ve found KnifeHQ’s to be the most customer service friendly and responsive. Whatever issue you’re having, I’m sure they’ll bend over backwards to make it right.

I once contacted BladeHQ and asked to have somebody go through all the Reate K-2s they had in stock to ensure the grinds were even and the plunge grind was properly executed. The rep selected the best one for me and I purchased it. I've also had to return a couple of knives to them for minor defects. Their customer service is second to none.

Sorry for your experience, OP. I've ordered from BladeHQ since 2013 with zero issues or complaints... probably 40+ orders over all those years. Some of the nicest folks in the business, as you know.

However, I will say that every knife leaving their hands (or any dealer for that matter) should be, at a minimum, hand inspected for visible imperfections and function prior to shipping. In any case, I would think they would at least need to examine each knife to verify the correct model is, indeed, in the packaging. I know many knife dealers do this with even knew inventory, because I routinely find desiccant packets, business cards and/or decals in the packaging, not included by the manufacturer. Of course, I'm coming at this from a user/collector's point of view and not in the industry.

At a minimum, I know EKnives, USAMadeBlade and KnivesShipFree (and others) do this but, in their defense, this situation may simply be a byproduct of the type of packaging the knife is in, or the sheer order volume BladeHQ likely experiences.

BHQ had a serious data breach a few years back and handled it poorly, IMO. Late and limited notifications and , at least from the last time I looked, still want to store your CC numbers on their systems. My CC was impacted, but only the credit card company did anything to help. BHQ did nothing. No thanks.

Was that Blade HQ? I remember someone bringing it up recently, getting their cards banged after using a major knife selling website and quite a few others chimed in with similar experiences. Couldn't remember if it was blade hq or not.

Yup. Did the same years ago, since I'm not applying for loans and don't need more credit cards.
