Does anyone know if these are high quality?
How much weight does it add to the knife? I love good weight.

What other custom aluminum scales are there? Preferably easy to purchase, like the Bladehq ones.

I don't have any experience with them but blade hq wouldn't sell a bad pruduct.

The pictures for the scales look really weird; the black scales have lock cutouts on both scales, while the green scales do not have a lock cutout:

Hopefully that's just a problem with the picture, and not the actual scales.

Apart from wanting something different, why would someone pay extra for aluminum scales?

It's also possible they're lighter than the G-10 scales. While it's not exactly the same as G-10, Nishijin GF is a fiberglass based composite and the GF Lum Chinese weighs a bit under half an ounce more than the Aluminum version.

What??? How's metal lighter, or is it thinner than the g10?

John Grimsmo sometimes makes batches of Titanium scales. He also still has some Aluminum scales for sale, although I don't think he's making any more of them.

John has only made one run of Ti PM2 scales and they sold out pretty quick. He also stated that he did not know when or if more would be made. As you can see from the pic above his work is first class. I would not hesitate to buy a set of his aluminum scales.

My response was simply a speculative observation based on published data. I don't own one of the Nishijin GF Chinese Folders, so I can't compare its overall thickness to the aluminum ones which I do own. For the same reason, I can't even be absolutely sure that both versions use identical partial steel liners, so some of the "weight loss" might be the result of less steel. Not to mention that, as with any data printed anywhere, there's always the possibility one of the listed weights is incorrect.

Oh that could be. I thought he's done two runs so far; one with plain sides, and one with the honeycomb cutouts (like in the picture I posted above). Either way, as you say, they're fantastic quality. Part of the reason I bought them was because I wanted to support him; I think he's doing some fantastic work, and I love watching his "Knifemaking Tuesday" videos.

I don't know about the BladeHQ scales, but The Grimsmo scales use the stock liners. The Titanium scales are slightly heavier than the G10 scales, while the Aluminum handles are slightly less, but it's not really noticable.

There are tradeoffs. G10 is, in my experience, a little better in cold weather. It also has more grip when it's wet. On the flip side, Titanium and Aluminum scales are more durable. For example, they'll survive drops onto stone or concrete better than G10.

Sorry guys, I just went and checked on those green scales on the shelf and they do have cutouts for the lock. I am not sure how the picture ended up without the cutouts. Strange...

Also, these replacement scales do use the stock liners.

Thank YOU! Just need to get a actual Para 2 first.

I have some of the Grismo scales and they completely change the feeling of the knife. Love it.

This is correct. He did around 10 plain and 10 honeycomb in Ti. I have one of each and they are exceptional. I've had some of his aluminum ones and they are also very high quality.
