Bladeless at Work :-(

I had intended to break the post down into clauses that I found particularly despicable...concerning the "boss." I couldn't. The whole situation stinks. The lady boss is a crackpot. Ask her to demonstrate how you can break down boxes with plastic silverware. What does SHE use at home in her kitchen? The entire situation just sucks.
Reminds me of a news-flash that I heard about one British small-town mayor. He is asking everyone to dull-down their kitchen knives. Oh LORD, preserve our USA...

Being lazy at work and reading through the thread about leaving your house without a knife. Made me long for the days where leaving the home without a knife was a rare occurrence.

I’m a former Army infantry officer-turned- attorney. I work in a courthouse (criminal court) and so no blades of ANY size are allowed. I feel haked every day without a knife clipped to my pocket. I keep a couple in my car in case I have to go somewhere after, but don’t carry out of the house because I will likely forget it trying to go through security.

I’ve taken to using and carrying my Surefire EWP-01 pen. Good heft with a solid glassbreaker tip and writes great with a Schmidt Easyflow 9000 cartridge.

Who else works in a place that does not allow knifes and how do you sate your blade withdrawal?

Fortunately I got a job with the feds where I will rarely be in court. Looking forward to the end of my bladeless life next month. :-D

You, sir, need to join us in the world of private practice. I drop the knife in my desk (with the other knives...) before I stroll over to court.

Buddies with the guards, so if I forget, I have slipped them the knife outside the building, and always gotten it back after. Sometimes I even get a smile and a "Wow that was sharp!"

I've never worked at a firm where it was a big deal. At my current firm, the partner is sort of old fashioned and would frown upon anything "tactical." Which is fine because that's not really my taste anyway. He has never said a word when I've whipped out a SAK, a trapper, BM North Fork, Opinel No 10 "Slim", or a few others.

The only one that ever got a comment from him was the ZT 0450, and he asked, "ready to slay an infidel?" Otherwise, it was a non-issue.

I also get to keep Bourbon in the office...It's the one part of lawyering that actually is like how they show it on TV...

I suppose you might say I work in the worst of all possible worlds. It's located on a military base that has a general ban of any folding or fixed-blade knife with a blade length of over four inches unless you can demonstrate a "legitimate need." Also specifically prohibited are any straight razors (even in the barracks or residential units).

But, here's the kicker: the specific building in which I work has a boss who strictly prohibits the display and use of all blades that are not cheap plastic disposable cutlery. "Display and use" means exactly that, which allows me to carry into my workplace any knife with a blade less than four inches in length - so long as it's never used. My boss specifically forbids the use of X-Acto craft knives and box cutters, as well as any multitool (even if the knife blade itself isn't deployed) irrespective of size. Therefore, even a Leatherman Squirt dangling from your keychain still constitutes a threat to employees and guests. Ditto for any kitchen cutlery made of metal - including butter knives (I asked). She also declared that display and use of any of the aforementioned classes of knives and tools are grounds for summoning the base police, confiscation of the item, and finally, being escorted off the post.

(If you actually need to break down heavy corrugated cardboard boxes, you are forced to use child-sized and blunt-tip scissors.)

I've tried to understand her point of view, but to no avail. As I see it, her policy can't possibly benefit employee or public safety because nothing in it prohibits actually carrying any of the knives and tools into the building. And no, there are no metal detectors or x-ray scanners where I work.

I do know for a fact my boss carries a pink Spyderco Native in her purse "just in case." Go figure.
She always wanted to be a prison warden .

I am the associate pastor of my church. I usually carry a Glock 43 and my Native 5 lightweight when I'm there, even when I'm preaching the message.
And my rod and shiv , they comfort me !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I work at an industrial facility that banned knives recently due to a couple knucklehead safety incidents. They gave us these stupid little box openers and scissors. Cheap ones at that. The new policy specifically exempts kitchen duties, a knife is ok for that. So I keep a kitchen knife in my pocket quite often :D. It wasn’t about a “weapon” but about stupid decisions. We have pipe wrenches and channel locks could make better weapons than any knife. But some folks just can’t be left alone....

What really irks me is that we’ve had more incidences if ladies twisting ankles wearing high heels lately but they didn’t ban those. And there really is zero reason to wear those on site. None. Whereas, while special tools can be used in place of knives in some places, those are banned. We literally have to have safety meetings and procedures to go through to allow knives for some jobs.

Those 4" stiletto heels are proven lethal ! :p

Sucks you can't carry a cutting tool! They are probably sticklers about the tiny multitools too? I'm guessing
My work has strict "no weapons allowed" policy. Luckily I have never considered a pocket knife a weapon, and have carried one for 5 years without any hassle. I do prefer to carry folders with pocket clips that blend in with my uniform, so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

As one of the shepherds of my flock, it is my responsibility to have the tools to protect them handy.
And sadly there have been more than a few takeover robberies of congregations...talk about taking the express lane to hell!

And of course Sutherland Springs

I work in an office environment that prohibits "weapons" but I still see people with clips in their pockets. I typically have an alox SAK when I'm in the office but I also travel once a week. Even though it is on our corporate jet I still have the whole day with no knife. Does make me feel kind of naked. Is the OP I have a copper Hinderer Investigator pen that I can fondle to get rid of the no-knife itch.

I had a job that issued knives, no kidding. Once a year they gave us all a truck stop special that barely lasted until the next issue. My boss told us that we were expected to have it with us every day. I gave mine away and continued carrying a Buck 112 or a PM2.

Sad world we live in these days where even a key chain Sak or Peanut scares the sheep so badly they are banned!
Prayers sent for you blade less guys since I carry 4 every day!
