Just finished up two more Entry Tools. I had Dave at GLWJ cut me some blanks from my first knife.

The black and gray variant is going to one of our troops. He will be taking it with him back to the sand box in October. I am working on a K-Bit as a gift to take with him as well.

I still have to oil the handles up, finish up the custom fire-steels and loops and I will be pretty much done.

The handle material on his is Todds Random Urban Desert micarta. I still have to oil them down a bit. I am still learning, but seem to get a little better with every shot. My biggest problem is my grinder stalling out half way through each pass...VERY frustrating learning curve. But, I have a new grinder coming soon, Thanks, Tracy2thumbs:D .....also having a friend of the family to come wire me up with 230V. I cant wait.

Thanks for looking guys...still a rookie...but still learning!

Interesting design. Not much for stabbing, but better for prying. Not sure that I like the hard point at the handle end. What kind of steel is it?

Hey Zaph.

The steel is 5160.

Not sure if you saw my first blade on Knife-Dogs. It was very similar to these. A buddy of mine wanted a pry-bar/entry tool type blade so I ground one up for him. After posting it on a couple forums I started getting order for them.

You are right, its more of a prying tool than anything...but wicked sharp and can still slice:D

I have a couple 13" chopper models I am working on right now...they are pointy:thumbup:

Thanks,

Chris

The hard point at the end is the skull crusher :D. Plus good for windows and whatnot too I would guess, right?

Looking good Chris, I remember seeing your first one of them. Looks like you are marking the holes in the blade better :p. What exactly are they for btw? Are they mostly for looks or do they serve another purpose?

I'm seeing all these new knives come out by fairly new guys and I feel I'm totally lagging behind here.

Hey Fletch,

Yes....that evil point at the end will bust some heads/bones and shatter thick glass.

The holes where more to lighten up the blade since it will be strapped to a vest/BOB etc. But can also serve as a modern day blood-groove I guess....LOL These things are 1/4" thick and 13" long....so they may look heavy...but there pretty fast!

The one I made my buddy IE the first one was out of Aldo's 5/16" 6150:eek: and 14" long.

Thanks for the post, buddy!

Chris

How about a down-the-spine shot? I'm curious to see how the bevels look.

I can and will do that tomorrow.

The blade is right handed chisel ground so the pics only show the flat side. The first pic of the black micarta shows the plunge on the right side of the blade if that helps any.

I will get them pics tomorrow.

Thanks,

Chris

ETA: I put a small edge on the backside of the flat right hand side. I guess it wouldnt be considered a true chisel as there are secondary bevels etc. Maybe call it a Chaos grind?....;-)

I just did multiple grinds on the blades. Sorry if it doesnt work for you bud.

Best I can describe it is.......It can be used for a variety of cutting/chopping/prying applications.

I am still learning here, and I experiment with what people ask for and try new things. I dont see being different a problem...doesnt work for everyone though!:D

Thanks,

Chris

Whoa, whoa, hold on there. I wasn't complaining, or at least I didn't mean to sound like I was. I was just trying to wrap my head around it. When you wrote that they were chisel grind, I thought you only meant the top of the blade. I think I understand it better now. All edges are CHAOS!

Here's my question, the holes(which I like the aesthetics of) are not centered on the top edge on the one with the square front. For that matter, they aren't centered on anything, spine to edge or tip to ricasso. It could be just personal taste, but it seems that if you move it just a little toward the middle of the blade, it would look better. Or, is there a reasoning behind having it that far from the tip?

Lastly, my ponderance about the point on the handle. If it were flat you could hammer the pommel when prying. That skull-crusher point is going to dig into your palm real bad.

Again, please don't take this as complaining, I really do like the designs. More so the one with the partial top edge. It leaves you with a spot you can hammer with by the tip.

Zaph,

I apologize...I did take it wrong. Sometimes its hard to decipher messages and things get easily misconstrued. My apologies sir.

There really is not a rhyme or reason for them.....thats just how they turned out...LOL I just started doing this about 5 months ago...so I learn a little something new on every blade. I think your right.....squaring up the edges along the spine would look better...But again...I try to do something new on every blade.

Here is the first one I made my buddy....also the first knife I ever made:

Here are a couple different hole designs I had Dave cut for me:
ETPhoneHome003.jpg

I brought all of them down to a point rather than the blunt chisel type tips on the other 3.

Yes, the pommel end if squared could have been used for a hammer.....I just like wicked weird looking hooks/curves/holes/grinds etc.....lol When I have someone that is spicific on a design I stick with it...but when I play.....sometimes it works...sometimes it doesnt:D

Thanks again for explaining that back to me....I did take it wrong and again I apologize. I do great with constructive criticism but it seemed more like you wanted to pick me apart....damn stupid brain doesnt always comprehend that well these days:eek::D

Thanks again, Zaph. I look forward to seeing your come along as well.

No problem. I re-typed that message about 3 times figuring out things each time I re-wrote it. That top blank with the smaller and smaller holes shows that someone has a better set of drill bits than I do. hehehe.

Zaph,

They where all Water-Jet by Dave. The first one I drilled with 5/16" drill and was a pain.....LOL If you ever decide to do something like that...Have Dave square you up. Saves a lot of time and money on the dreaded drill press. In my case a POS drill press...LOL

Have a good weekend brother.

Chris

That's awesome, a friend of mine is wanting me to make him one similar to these once I get started. He just wanted a thick handle but I really like the idea of putting a traditionalish handle on it with a nice block as it will add some style.

Nice work!!

I like the decreasing holes design. Gives it a real tool look. I think with a design like you got there, the more 'multi-tool' you can make it the better. Using the holes at a useful distance from each other for measuing and scribing, etc. Maybe a symetrical handle and saw serrations on the spine? Then you could flip it over use it both ways.

I dunno, just some thoughts. Keep up the good work!

I am drawing up some new ideas, Wade. Like you said...the more uses it has the better, I just dont want to get too carried away and believe me...A.D.D get the better of me sometimes...>LOL

Thanks for the kind works brother!

Most of these that I've seen have been para-cord wrapped handles. It is refreshing to see an actual handle on one.

Thanks buddy! I am trying:thumbup: I would like to try a few cord wrapped blades though...I think they look quite cool when done right. Prob beyond my skill level right now though. I can barely tie my own shoes....LOL
