This is a very entertaining fast paced historically accurate series of books from a time when you didn't go anywhere without your sword or your axe or your knife.....any other recommendations?

The Dexter series of books(that the TV show was originally based on) features knife use, although they're not really described in detail. If you like modern pulp/action/adventure stuff, The Executioner series of books(originally by Don Pendleton, now written by many authors) as well as it's spinoffs(Mack Bolan/Able Team/Phoenix Force/Stony Man Farm) almost ALWAYS has the hero carrying at least one blade of some sort. Just off the top of my head him and his allies have carried Benchmade, Cold Steel, Emerson, Gerber, Ka-bar, Boker, Al Mar, a LaGana Tomahawk, as well as an occasional machete, kukri, or sword. Probably other companies represented too, the Executioner and it's spinoff series number over 1000 books in total so needless to say I haven't remotely read anywhere close to every book in the series.

Naturally, most any fantasy series, be it Lord of the Rings, Elric, Game of Thrones, Conan, or any other will have heroes and villains alike wielding an assortment of swords, knives, and axes...

Yeah it's pretty much endless.....sometimes though there is real poetry when describing a particular sword or other edged weapon which adds to the romantic intangible connection we feel towards these objects.

Wheel of time (R.Jordan/B.Sanderson?) is another lengthly fantasy series with some notable well described blades.

The author has passed away, and no new books are being published, but the secret agent Mat Helm series was a well-written series by Donald Hamilton that realistically described knives and their use.

I'm currently reading "The Naked Edge" by David Morrell which has a lot of knife action and info. I'm sure I picked it up due to a comment posted here sometime ago.

First time I heard of a Buck knife and locking blades was in an early Matt Helm novel back in the 60's. Before that I thought pocket knives were all just slip joints a la case, boker, camillus, barlow etc.
