I give the Modded Becker a 10/10 for chopping/shaving and splitting, the J-siah heavy camp knife a 10/10 for chopping/shaving and splitting, the Pat Randall a 10/10 for shaving, 8/10 for chopping (its a bit small for heavy chopping) and a 8/10 for splitting(bit small). The Emerson gets 10/10 for shaving, 8/10 for chopping/spliting (a bit small) and a 10/10 for stabbing and prying apart wood. The Mykulmorris gets 10/10 for shaving, prying apart small wood, Did'nt rate it for chopping or splitting, its too small for that purpose. The GL Drew gets 10/10 for fine detail work, shaving, did'nt rate it for chopping or splitting, too small for that purpose.

fun day in the woods

here are some other pics from the short hike:

Great pics bro. I like that Lile alot. You have a great collection of custom blades there!!

I have been lusting after one of those GL Drew $65 blades for a long while. Always miss em or I am broke. ONE DAY.

Cool shots. Hey, and thanks for the drilling pics - you don't see them often here!

You guys will have to explain to me why there would be a choil on a neck knife. I'm at a loss for words.

I hear ya andy. I am hoping its more of a finger groove, like a gossman PSK then a choil. I dunno though hard to tell, the way its wrapped, and being held in the pic.

That had me scratching my head a little also. Great photos and a great work out for all those customs!

Fiddleback, are you refering to the MykulMorris file necker? you have to hold one of his blades in your hand to understand, its such a perfect fit in the hand. when i took that pic i wanted to show the cord wrap, so i did'nt hold the blade like i normally do (in the finger groove)

trust me it works.

EDIT: here is a pic that really explains it better:

It looks like his grinds are good. I like the design of the blade. But look how far your hand is from the work in this pic...

In the 2nd pic your grip looks better, but I still don't see the need for a choil in a small knife. Choils are a fad. And every bit as useless as parachute pants ever were.

my hand was far from the choil in that pic for three reasons:

- i was trying to hold the knife and wood iwhile taking ing the pic . I had the wood and knife at arms length, while standing on a slope, trying to get the subject into the frame before snapping the pic.

- i wanted to show the cord wrap handle to ID it as the file necker

- I dont restrict myself to one grip only.

while i respect your opinion on choils, its just that - your opinion. Others may like them, others may not. I like them, thats my opinion.

Hey whats wrong with parachute pants? :) Sorry couldn't resist, I grew up in the 80's. No..I ..uuhm..never ....wore em !

Hey, I'll admit I'd wear parachute pants if they still made them.

I bet Fiddleback wore those ZUBAZ weightlifter pants.
