I am having a Bladesmiths hammer preorder for my hand forged bladesmithing hammers. They are forged from 1045, with an Oak or Hickory handle, and are 2.5 pounds, and have a 1.5" square face. These are the culmination of working with different hammers, handle shapes and designs, I feel they are of ideal weight and shape and balance for bladesmithing. The weight forward design inherent in bladesmithing hammers is ideal for forging tapers and bevels, makes for a very pull forward linear swing.
