I just wanted to share with y'all what Mr Stacy Apelt did for me, seeing me as a new knife maker. A couple weeks ago, he volunteered to send me some 1084 to help me get my feet wet. I took him up on his offer, fully expecting just one piece of steel roughly big enough for one knife to be made. I waited anxiously for the package to arrive so I'd know the exact dimensions of the bar so I could get started designing. Let me tell you, when that package came, I was completely blown away.

This rare breed of a man sent me roughly four feet of 1084, cut into three pieces!! I was astounded at not only the quantity, but of the dimensions of it as well. He sent me pieces that were 1 1/2" wide and 1/4" thick! That is twice as thick and wider than I was expecting. If I do my part, being conscious of how I cut each piece, I could easily get 6-7 knives from these pieces!

I want to personally thank Stacy for his amazing generosity. I can only hope to someday repay him by paying it forward to another budding knife maker.

Stacy you are truly a rare breed of man in this day and age of people only looking out for themselves.

Thank you!

+1!!!

Stacy truly is a great guy. He has show this type of generosity over and over, and apart from that does a bang-up job moderating this forum (which I can assure isn't always an easy job!).

+1. He's a good one for sure!

Especially in the underappreciated position as a moderator, he views debates and discussions with a fair and level sight that is rare these days in a medium (internet) where such things as nuance are lost.

I raise my glass and tip my hat to you sir, keep up the good work!

My biggest appreciation and this goes for many people on this site is the knowledge they share. For us guys without teachers it is great having all this experience available.

I couldn't have said that better myself.

Yep Stacey is a good guy. He has always answered my questions and has helped me a lot with his posts over the years!

A few years ago, the folks who moderated this subforum needed to move on to other things. Stacy was immediately mentioned as one who could possibly step in and keep the makers' forums going in a positive direction, and as far as I know the vote was essentially unanimous among newbs, experienced makers, and the folks who run the entire forum.

It was a great decision, and has served us all very well. Thank you for your service and leadership, Stacy :)

now you have been introduced to a true gentleman. At some point you will have an opportunity to make someone feel as you do right now. When the opportunity presents itself, pass it forward. You might mention when you do that you are honoring a gentleman who once helped you.

just a thought

When you consider the amount of time Stacy devotes to moderating this forum, and how much his time is worth, you will see that we are all in his debt.

I believe he is in this for truly altruistic motives. And he is a true gentleman.

Stacy is a great guy with a lot of knowledge. As you stated, best thing you can do is some day pass on the same generosity. This is a great site to be part of. Make sure to post some pictures of your progress.

Jerry who????

Thanks for the kind words guys. Now don't get carried away with all this arguing, or I'll have to lock this thread :)
