John,
Check with a local machine shop. If the billets are small enough they might just surface grind them. You may not need a Blanchard. Most shops have a shop rate of 60.00 + per hour.

I have a surface grinder, I was just thinking if there was something that was reasonably priced and less tedious. The billets are about 14 inches by 2 inches.

I checked with the local machine shop here and was told $80 and hour with a minimum of 1 hour charge so I surface grind mine and if I need heavier removal I mill it off. If you have a bunch it would be worth having the machine shop blanchard grind them, I only usually have a couple to do at a time so it is not worth it for me.

I just had two pieces (1 1/2" x 18" & 2" x 36") done in Vancouver, WA. It cost me the shop minimum of $100/hr.

I have a blanchard at work...if you need it send me a sample to grind and if you like it I'll do what you need for the cost of shipping to help you.

When I take things to the grinding shop, I try to take as large a batch as I can. They're running it on a machine with a 36" round table so anything less than full is wasting $$. That said, I never fill it. Usually costs me ~$20/bar when I take in 15-20 bars.
