Blanchard Ground vs Precision Ground + other questions on steel

One more question, I bought a condor tactical vest, any ideas on how to soften it quickly? It's so stuff and ridged

Those drill press takes that we have have those circular grinding marks. I inquired here in Denver about having some material ground and they made it pretty clear that the Blanchard grinders are used for large pieces.

How coarse or fine of a finish doors the Blanchard grinder leave? Are there options for finer than our drill press tables?

Blanchard grinding: Circular grind lines, coarse finish (approx 60 grit as previously mentioned), usually only two opposing faces are ground.
Surface/precision grinding: Linear grind lines, usually a fine finish, usually all surfaces are ground.

A google image search for either term will show lots of examples.

I would like to point out that I get steel mostly unground but when I get precision it's closer to flat than most blanchard, however neither are rarely what I would call flat at all!! More like precision parallel! Not so much flat. Looking down the bar reveals a well ground and bent piece of stock.

If you buy a bar of Starrett precision ground flat bar.

It's flat and straight.

Yes you are correct. Any piece of stock that is not flat and held in place by a mag will grind parallel when pulled down but not flat in most cases be it ground on either type of grinder, surface grinder or a blanchard. Stock not flat needs to be shimmed before magnet is turned on in order to flatten it out. Then flipped over and ground without shims on the second operation/side.
