Blasphemy or just customafied my ZT 500

Very nice jeff. What did you use to open up the choil? How does feel when you choke up on it now? I really like a deep choil, especially the ones on my AR's. That choil looks so natural with the 0500's blade shape. Sorta funny as I took my polishing to the mirror level and decided I would rather have it satin so that is what it now is. Neat way to do the clip also. I decided to get rid of the extra length the clip had by doing what I did. I don't have any twisting to worry about now! Also covered mine, pocketclip, with some 3M Stair Step Tread tape and it is easier to get a firm grip on and withdraw from the pocket.

And now all back together with polished pivot and screw heads and a differnt clip end.. and modifed button switch .. I like the knurling it really grabs my thumb alot better now.QUOTE]

How did you polish the pivot and screw heads? Haven't they've been black originally? What did you use to polish them?

Thanks in advance...

I used 800 grit wet/dry sand paper along with some polishing compound to remove the black. I left my centers black but used a little compound, rubbing VERY lightly, to get an even black coloring. I found that placing a sheet of sandpaper on a flat surface and then holding the pivot by the screw in part, you can you can move it back and forth, or in a circular motion to quickly and easily remove the black. Hope this helps.:D

Yes, that helps, but how do you remove the black from the inside of the bolts/screws?

Thanks a lot

MA, I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you talking about the black inside the torx screws. If a T6 I don't. Usually doing the outside is enough that folks don't even recognize if the inside is done or not. On the T8's and T10's I take a wire metal wheel on my Dremel and do the isides as best I can. As Long as you get a good shine on the outside of the screws, most folks will never even realize that the center is not done.:D:D If your talking about the depression in the pivot screws for the 0500, then probably using a small square of the sandpaper would do it , orr even some steel wool, and finish it up with a buffing compound or mag wheel polish and you will have a great shine! Hope this helps!!

Hey cutter thanks for the hand there .. there I go again taking too long to post lol..

Sounds good to me too.. Here is what I used just to add.. I have a bench grinder set up with soft wire brush and a buffing wheel.. and while holding onto the bolts and pivot srews with a tiny pair of channel locks I just barley put them onto the wheel.. and that makes the black oxide go away pretty fast.. ALso I would dip the heads into that Mothers Billet metal polish .. That stuff works miricals.

on the inside of the pivot screws I just used my dremal with a small buffing pad and took care of them again with that metal polish..

Thank you guys for all your comments....

Oh yeah almost forgot.. On the Choil part.. I used a fine round stone on my dremal with the cabel extension and held the blade under cold water and took care of the choil.. that way it did not heat the blade up.. just taking little amounts at a time for short time then again etc....

I love the way this thing feels now .. for close up work my finger fits in there perfect..

Thanks again

Jefff , you and I are alike in that I cannot own a knife for more than an hour without thinking of ways to modify it.

I just got a Starkey Ridge and a Groove and another Scallion , all of which my wicked mind is thinking of ways to pimp' em out. :D

Good thread and pics by the way , I like the subtle yet classy mods you did to your ZT.
