Blems and Bargain for 4/3

Yeah I guess someone even beat this shark to the bone handle bowie but Auntie had another one with a wood handle that she is going to send me which wood is better since my other 2 HI knives have wooden handles ;)

Ndog, looks like a 2003 Dhankuta Convention Collection Model. I have a brother too. Got it from Gehazi who felt sorry for me cause I didn't have a Bura. I feel better having a Bura, I'd like more ya know?

Well that does ring a bell! I believe we have two of three of them them. From what I remember (and thats not much) there was three of them so one is still at large? It looks like an AK so thats just what i was calling it. This one belonged to our amigo Pugs. I dont think he would have parted with it for just anybody so I feel pretty dang special he let me take care of it:thumbup: I guess when they call something a Dhankute it could be anything between a Bowie or an AK to a pig sticker long as it caqe from Dhankute? Post a pic of yours if you get a chance please sir. Id love to see it. Ill se what I can find in the archives now that I know what to call it! Thanks bro!

Cul grats man! Lucky break! Purna does make a very nice Chainpure. Awesome blade.

Ah here it is! Thank you Mr. B!

The khukuri is the convention special. We have about a half dozen left for sale. All made by Bura. He knows I'm a fan of the combo handle so that's what he made.Top is bone cured by Bura himself and bottom is standard buff horn. The seam that joins the two pieces is invisible. Perfect fit and finish. The mounting is "white metal." I'm not sure exactly what metal it is but it is non magnetic. Can't tell by looking if it is a silver alloy or not. But Bura's usual fine work.I guess I'd call this an Ang Khola style Dhankuta. It's a bit over 12 inches and weighs about 11 ounces.Pala will deliver this to your door for $75 and says this model will never be made again so it becomes a 2003 convention collector model. The bottom is a hasiya made by Sher. You can judge the size against the khukuri. Usual superior work by Sher. Nice handle and nice inlay. The edge of this hasiya is noticeably softer than a khukuri and my guess this is for easy sharpening in the field and knowing that the major task of this knife is cutting soft material like grass and grain. One only.Same deal. Delivered for $75.Call or email. I may be running errands this afternoon so don't panic if I don't return your call or email right away. Usual first come, first served method. Be sure to include all required info. See thread to the top for ordering instructions. Now I'll see if I can get the pix to post successfully.

He aint kidding about that seam between the horn and bone. One side of the ring is bone the other side is horn and its perfect.
And i guess there was half a dozen of them? Little over an hour and sold out in 2003! That makes them pretty desirable about 12 years later from a collector pov.

Ah! Thank you sir! That pretty much seals the deal. We got the same thing and since they never made any more then theres only a few more out there. Dont it make you wonder where they are? Thats goin right there underneath my Kothimoda Katana:thumbup:

Interested in 15.5 inch 29 ounce Gopte by Dhan. Email sent.
Congrats Mayfly that looks like a great blade. Goptes with that sun at the Shoulder are just beautiful, May it serve you well!

Well...it was "long gone", but you know auntie, she had another laying around same size, weight, kami, and price. You cannot find a better person than auntie anywhere in this "day and age".
In any Day and Age Auntie would always be Auntie. But in this Day and Age you are right, she is even more unique in a wonderful way :) Congrats on safe successful sharking always great when the spouse relents. Should you try the "I got 2, but they fit in 1 triangle box so count as 1" concept? Better to get multiples when they are already expecting a box anyways :D

EMS sent for Chitlangi.

Hope it works out.

Ken K.

EMS on Bura Convention Special AND Kothimoda Katana!!! :D

Looking forward to owning my first H.I. I Have had Busse and several Swamp Rats, but thought I would try a drink from this fountain.

Can someone help me decipher a couple of things. What does "Gopte" mean? I could not find any other reference on their H.I. website. I guess at 29 oz, this would be considered one of the "Chiruwa style" blades?

Also any information on the builder, Dhan? In my research I have seen his name but no specific information or opinions on him or his work, is he one of the more popular Kamis? I am trying to increase my "connection" with the knife, as I see it becoming a life-long companion- need I remind everyone I am a H.I. virgin.

Welcome to the forum mayfly! Dhan is a fairly new Kami so you wont find much HI history on him yet. His work is first class in my opinion. I have a few of his blades more in the style of the KLVUK which is a villager type knife which means it is not highly polished like many HI knives but is fully functional and up to the same quality standards as all HI products.
I dont know what "Gopte" means so I cant help there. There have been several "Gopte" styles made in the past. Gopte Balance comes to mind. The one pictured here is in fact a chirruwa style handle. This one looks to be pinned in three locations at the butt plate. Nice blade:thumbup:
I had a Scrapyard Dogfather CG at one time which was a monster. It got "heat treated" when my house burned down. I never found it again? It got replaced with an HI AK and I havent looked back since. Turns out I prefer the ergonomics of the Khukri much better than Western style knives. Enjoy that Gopte! It should last through your grandkids and then some.

I seem to recall someone posting that "Gopte" meant something like "broken-back"? And I also recall someone posted that these new Gopte khukuris by Dhan Bahadur are very different from the Gopte models sold by HI in years past? Maybe some old-time HI forumites can jump in with more information.
