Blems, villager and deals for last day of 2003.

Joking again, donutsrule! :D This one will not be collecting spiderwebs, and it will be maintained well. If #4 was missing a handle, I would have gone for it all the same. I was going to pick up a 40 Euro WWII Khukuri (WWII Style) that was in fairly good shape, but not brand new, and needing attention to get it to spec. Not knowing the providence of the WWII, I gave up on the idea days ago, and was just hanging out, ready to pounce, and I did. I'll let everyone know my impressions, but I believe I can be prophetic right now.

Some people can't/don't/won't use Paypal.
Paypal better for Uncle since then he doesn't have to
pay off percentages of the transaction.

Mohd: #6 and #7 were gone before they were put up.

( It helps to have a tap on UB's phone!

( BTW, my technician told me that there were several other devices already installed when he hooked mine up! Didn't trace them, but several usually active Great Whiles have been surprizingly quiet during feeding frenziers... )
:p :p :p :D :D :D

WOW!!!!

To give Uncle his due, when all hell isn't breaking loose he does post them at differing times of the day so everyone has a chance to get caught flat-footed.

Pan Tau, you scored an awesome one...
you'll have to let us know how you like the Chiruwa when you get it.

Rusty, thanks for the encouraging words....
I'll have to try on Fridays (ahem,ahem...Uncle Bill)
since I have the next two off.
BTW, whats a 'Frog' or the 'Frog'?

Happy New Year

I don't understand the concept... Do you mean that I can deposit, say $175.00 on the site, and then chose items until... What would the advantages be over PayPal? On the other hand Andreas, please understand that after I order my special order GS next week, there will be no need for either, since I will only be placing one more order...

Hello Drdan,
no I meant if you snag a Pen-Knife blem or special for lets say 60 US$ and do not have paypal you inform Yangdu or Uncle Bill that you pay via the shop site, go there, pay for a JKM 1 plus int. shipping by using your VISA card and receive the desired blem in a little while. As I do not have paypal I did it that way - it is important that Uncle knows what you pay for, so you would not get the JKM 1 but the blem you want. So you just match the price of the desired blem by buying something equivalent from the site.

I know the problem of the unavailable care-products and use Ballistol (German product but available in the US and maybe in Italy too) for the blades and the leather, sometimes even to polish the horn or the wood. Yvsa is a fan of this product (non toxic, do it all oil). I used to use Pedocan for the horn grips, a thing for hoof caring that contains lanolin. worked well.

Happy 2004

Thanks for the clarification. I'll stick with PayPal; I find it very user friendly.

I don't know about the laws in Germany, but in Italy it was, and may still be illegal to have katana, unless they were unsharpened. When items sent from U.S. companies arrive at Italian customs, the addressee is advised that a package is waiting at either Malpena in Milano or Rome. I must fill out a form stating what the product is, what I paid for it, and what the purpose is.

I'll refrain from entering "lopping off heads" in that space for sure. :D I was once advised by a katana importer here to always place REPLICA SWORD or something to that nature on the package to help things along... I certainly hope there are no snags.

Thanks, and Best Wishes!

Hello Dan,
I have been in Italy many times (for vacation, student`s exchange and for visiting friends) but have no clue about the knife legislation there. My parents (and little Andreas) used to spend three weeks of their summer vacation on the "teutonic grill" (Veneto, Adria coast) almost ten times, I learnt Italian at school and exchanged for some time with students from Bassano del Grappa. We have friends from that time near Padova. However I like the landscapes of Tuscany, the Amalfitana and the cities of Siena and Firenze very much. Only have the best experiences with nice people and beautiful women there  Where are you in Italy?

In Germany it is not illegal to have katana, khukuris, sharp swords or knives of a certain lengh. It is just illegal to own push knives, balisongs, nun-chakos etc. and to carry sharp weapons (like Katana or knives bigger than a pocket knife) at fairs, demonstrations or in public transportation vehicles (or you have to get a permission from the local authorities, unsharpened or stage fighting swords are allowed).
With customs duties it is a bit strange, sometimes they send a letter and charge custom fees, sometimes not, guess it has to do with the declaration of the box`s content.

Pan Tau, you scored an awesome one...you'll have to let us know how you like the Chiruwa when you get it.

I will give a short review - but I will not use it myself, it is a present for my father (who likes my Bura-made chiruwa very much)

BTW, whats a 'Frog' or the 'Frog'?
I will try to explain it with my limited English...
It is the piece of leater that forms a belt loop with one end and is tied around the scabbard with the other end. So the "frog" enables you to carry the khukuri on a belt.
You can see it well on this picture from the HI shopping site

Ciao Andreas!

I live in the city of Ancona on the Adriatic coast near Senegallia, a popular beach resort area. There are nice Italian women everywhere; most Italians themselves will tell you that the prettiest are found in Trieste and Treviso. It’s a generalization though, kind of like saying the prettiest Thai women are found in Chiang Mai.

The German laws are restrictive, but they could be worse, like in England. They are better than the laws here, although I’ve never asked for the specifics. I’ll ask my assistant’s boyfriend, who is a police officer. Here in Italy, I wanted to take a katana over, and display it in my office, but I was told it would be best not to tempt fate. When my GS arrives, I will discreetly take it to a large wooded park for testing. If I were caught doing it, I probably would not have a problem, as it is legal to to have large knives outside of the city limits. The policemen here are a lot more forgiving than in Germany in general, but I was involved in an incident in Hamburg where the officer was extremely lenient. It depends also if you are respectful, not under the influence, not cocky, etc.

If I do have a problem with this GS khukuri, I will have to think of a different strategy to get them here in Italy. A sword importer here in Italy offered to bring in my katana, but it was best for me to not take him up on the offer; the penalties can be pretty bad if they decide to press charges. I don't think I would, but i don't care to find out. The customs fees involved were also absurd!

Buon Capodanno!; auguri anche per te e la tua famiglia!

In bocca del lupo:

Dan ;)
