UGHHHH!!!!! Someone went and stuffed my new Wiggys sleeping bags in the drier and burned them. I dropped around $450CND on these only a few weeks ago.

The hole might not be big, but who knows wtf happenes to the insulation at that temperature. I'm just so bloody furious right now, I just have to vent.:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

Sorry to hear this. What a drag! Still, I'm sure there was no malicious intent. On the bright side, you can claim to be the first W&SS forumite to destruction test a high-end sleeping bag, albeit involuntarily.

All the best,

- Mike

I know it was well intentioned, and I still love em, I'm basically just cursing at the night sky. Much calmer now, but still fuming....

bummer man... sorry to hear that....:( i would be pretty heated up too, i am super picky about taking care of gear...

If it was my brother he's get a smack and never hear the end of it, anyone else and I'd just bite the bullet but make sure they wouldn't think about doing it again.

Was indeed my bro, though my mother insists it's her fault in it and wants to replace the whole bag, but I cant take that kind of money from her, the idea makes me feel rotten.

Well, I guess that's why we have duct tape. I have seen many a winter parka patched up with it to keep the warm in.
Didn't you mention in the other thread it was machine washable/dry? Maybe just too high a setting on the drier?

I'm not really worried about the shell, it's the damage that may have occurred to the insulation that I'm concerned about, even part of the zipper melted a bit.

They are machine wash/dryable, and it was on low, but both bags were packed in there so they couldnt tumble at all.

Man that sucks big time. But cant ever get mad at mom.....Shes mom. Try some duct tape and see if it works .. Maybe Wiggy can do something about it and help you out...

I emailed Wiggys asking what to expect as a result. The insulation isnt melted, but it seems less lofty where burnt, and if its hollow fiber insulation I cant imagine that kind of heat would do it any good. Whats the point of having a such a high quality bag if it wont preform up to spec right?

Anyway, I'll see what they say and just take this one on the chin I guess.

Hate to get my rant on, but I'm sure you can understand.

That does suck, but the feeling afterwards of jumping the gun isn't always pleasant. Last christmas I got a whole bunch of nice outdoor clothes from my parents. I went ahead and started a load of clothes to get that "store smell" off of them. Well out of courtesy I asked if anyone else needed something washed. My mom tossed in a pair of my sisters pants and not thinking anything of it, I started the washer, and then the drier. After the clothes dried, I noticed that everything I pulled out had pink all over it . My sister had left a tube of lip gloss or chap stick in her pants and basically ruined all of my new clothes, I was furious. I complained and let her have it, but felt really bad afterwards. It was an accident, and instead of cursing the wall, I pointed the finger. Lesson learned, at least in both cases it was an accident and the items can be replaced.

True enough. Thats why I decided to vent here instead of on the fam, no good would have come of it.

Sad to here about the bag :( but please GOD had nothing to do with it :grumpy: so lets not go cursing him ;)

I understand that kinda stuff makes you mad but if you stop and consider who they were doing it for in the first place (you), it might make the damning seem a little rough. I get mad at my kids for crap they do all the time but in the long run a sleeping bag is just stuff. Your family is EVERYTHING, hell, they'll probably buy you a better one for your B-day to make up for it. Not trying to preach but I'm sure you'll come to the same conclusion after some cooling off :o

Sorry to hear that man.

I guess that any advice now is useless but while down bags can be washed as many times as you want (as long as you use soap with NO detergent on it so it preserves the natural grease of the down so it stays waterproof and lofty), synthetic bags can not be washed that much. They lose loft quickly if you wash them. If you absolutely need to do so, do it by hand with cold wather and specific soap (nickwax) and let them dry on their own, even if it takes a week. And hang them horizontaly, so the now damp and heavy insulation doesn't break the fabric among the compartments.

Sorry to hear about such a disaster man...
